  • Surprisingly fun & functional
The controllers feel like they won’t work, but they do. Really no non-software problems. 3 AAA batteries each. USB dongle to make the wireless controllers work. Decent range. At least 20 feet with no drops. Hardware is pretty responsive in the raspberry pi category of performance, but I had to try several monitors before I found one with enough flat space around the HDMI port to plug the thing in. You also need USB power that must be pretty close to the HDMI for the supplied cord to work. I didn’t have a magical monitor that met all requirements so I used a wall wart on an extension cord for testing. As far as games go, the usual problems apply: Near zero chance that licensing fees have been paid for ROMS, many, many strangely named multi-language versions of the same games, ROMS that just don’t run with the supplied hardware, serious lag with some titles, but not others, poor or no emulator documentation (just push buttons until you figure it out). Still, my sons and I had fun playing 2-player 1941, but were frustrated by non-functional copies of Afterburner and Red Alert. We found Sonic the Hedgehog and DigDug (foreign lang versions with inaccurate screenshots to be fun, but didn’t find the right combination of button presses to make the 2-player options work. Pepsi Man by itself consumed us for an hour or so. What a strange and hilarious game that I’ve not seen outside of YouTube. Absolutely wild. ... show more

  • Easy connection; Classic simple games (pac man. Ms pac man; Tetris, etc); Some screen issues?
__We used this on an OLDER Sony flat screen (almost 15 years). I don;t know if this was an issue or if there were software issues, but we did get some occasional flickers as some games were being emulated. This was an annoyance, but not a strong nor frequent occurrence. __The interface--e.g. choosing games, waiting for the countdown screen to reach 0 before the game starts, etcetera--was just as retro and simplistic, and, well, 'crude' as the games. This is not a criticism, just telling you the experience is as genuine in GETTING to the game as in PLAYING the games themselves. __The controllers are shaped like game controllers are now-a-days. However, my game-playing offspring felt the controls had buttons in areas they weren't used to at first (they quickly adjusted), and that the speed of results was kind of slow. Having played some of these games back-in-the-day, I think the speed reflected what we experienced then--In other words, the speed was like the games really had, which is slower than the powerful, full gaming experience of today. I suppose there is also the possibly that some of this speed may be due to using an older screen--couldn't say for sure, but I suspect it is a factor of the emulation. __3.75 stars--a visit to yesteryear's games. ... show more

  • So Much Nostalgia
This is an excellent device for reliving your childhood, or introducing a new generation to the classics. The interface is intuitive and it includes a large selection of games. The controllers are comfortable and responsive, for the most part. They’re based on the PS2 design, which is one of my all-time favorite controllers. You can tell the device was cheaply made, but it still works just fine. Some games play better than others, though. A few have a bit of lag. There are thousands of games on the device, but a lot of them are repeats, or at least different versions of the same rom. It can be a bit daunting going through the list of games. Even jumping one page at a time, there are over 2,000 pages. There is a search function, but it's hit-or-miss since a lot of the games are named wrong. Adding your own games isn't too difficult. This is a great device if you’re into retrogaming. It's not as good as owning the original systems, but it's a great alternative if you're on a budget or have limited space in your home. ... show more

  • Doesn't come with any games, it's an emulator
If a techie person in your life is looking for a low-cost emulator, this set is worthy of looking at. The emulator stick comes without any games, but it's easy to find and download the games from the internet. The controllers are low quality compared to name brand, but they work. This set comes with everything you need to run vintage games in their original video game format at a very reasonable cost. ... show more

  • Nice gift package for casual gamers
This kit comes packed with a ton of games. Lots of nostalgic titles. The system easily connects to your TV, and is ready to play in seconds. With the amount of games it has available, you will easily get use out of it for years.

  • Fun games. Easy to set up.
This is much more fun than the version with a tiny screen I had already. On a computer monitor or tv, the games look much better. The controller works well enough. You can add more games if you wish so this is a great value.
