  • Something about electric.

  • You get what you pay for but this will do the trick for what I was willing to pay
Style: Wireless Pattern Name: Camera
I haven't read good things about Pyle stuff in a while and passed on this product when I was looking for a backup camera system for my Subaru. However, with my van, I'm not able to use the stereo screen so the options were a seperate monitor (no room so no thanks), a wi-fi unit that can go to a phone or tablet (Too much hassle to handle a device just to reverse), or go with a mirror monitor version. Most of the mirror monitors are add on mounts which I don't want for a couple of reasons. 1) Thief bait 2) Don't look great. For me, the stock mirror on my van was missing anyway so why not. Installation: I've been doing car audio since back in the thumper days of the late 80's and this was my 2nd wireless reverse camera install so it went fairly quick/easy for me. The instructions were worthless. With any auto electronic installation figure on supplying your own fuse block piggy back, t-taps, bullet splices, extra wire for power/ground, extra rca, and 2 craft beers. For the mirror and wireless receiver I wired the red wires both to a fuse piggy back to the same fuse the stereo is on. Then connected both grounds to bullet splice to add extra length and ran that wire to screw on the frame. The camera and wireless transmitter were a little more challenging with the challenge being finding somewhere to mount the transmitter either inside or somewhere protected. And then figuring out where to run the line to the reverse light wire. My transmitter right now is just barely inside the rear door of my van. I'm probably just going to cut off the power connectors and extend the wires. I don't know why the transmitter has a plug for power/ground but the receiver just has leads. Or at least make the plug wire long enough to actually be usable. Anywho, install was problem free for the most part in relation to the actual product. It's the vehicle itself that's the challenge most of the time. I'll probably ditch the wireless and just run the rca the full length of the van at some point. But for now it works. Quality: The mirror feels cheap and is a lot lighter than a stock mirror. I don't mind that for the most part. The video signal is ok. I may do a test and run some rca cable to compare. The actual mirror quality seems ok. I'm' in a van so it's not like mirror image quality is a concern since I can't see sh*t out the back anyway. Hence the camera. As far as durability goes, I guess we'll see. Overall: The product serves its purpose for what I need at a price I was willing to pay. Upgrading the camera will be easy enough should I need to do that. **** If you don't have experience installing auto electronics, be sure to watch some vids to see if it's something you think you'll be able to do. I've had to fix or finish so many projects from friends/family that thought an install would be quick and easy *** ... show more

  • It does the job
Style: Wired Pattern Name: Camera
I installed it on a 2002 Honda CR-V. After installation and adjusting it the camera and the mirror display work fine. The instructions were a little sparse and really intended for an experienced installer, not a DIY mechanic. If you can install a backup camera on an older car, I highly recommend it. It has made a huge difference when backing up in our CR-V which has poor rear visibility. The camera is designed to be installed on a license plate. There were two problems with this: 1) The license plate on older CR-V's are offset to the left and I could not adjust the camera left or right but only up or down. 2) I would have had to install an extension video cable and power wires because the license plate is on the left and the door hinge is on the right. Then I would have had to figure out how to get the wiring through the door into the body of the car. But thankfully I discovered I could just mount the camera on the plastic bumper right in the center (you'll need extra hardware to mount it, bolts), and having installed two-way radios and police bars in cars in a previous job, I was able to pull up the moulding and run the wire (across the left side near the ceiling to the fuse box. I used a fuse adapter to tap into the power. It was easier to run the video cable from the mirror monitor down to the fusebox. Originally I couldn't remove the old mirror mount so I mounted the kit mirror button just to the right of the old one. Well that turned out to be a problem as since it was a little offset I couldn't properly raise and lower the passenger shade. My brother-in-law accidentally knocked it off the glass and it took a chip out of it. He did some research and discovered the was an after market mirror mount adapter that I could put on the Pyle mirror mount (but not made by Pyle). and I was able to mount it on where the OEM mirror was. Note: Apparently, no one will repair a chip on the inside of a windshield, but I couldn't get anyone to explain why. Anyway, the adhesive is really good and holds it firmly in place (if you put it the correct location). I had looked at replacing the stereo with one that had a backup camera, but I liked the old stereo which has a six CD changer and you can't find those anymore and bought a Nulaxy Bluetooth Car FM Transmitter Audio Adapter Receiver Wireless Handsfree Voltmeter Car Kit TF Card AUX 1.44 Display - KM18 Coffee and a iOttie Easy One Touch 4 Dashboard & Windshield Car Phone Mount Holder for iPhone X 8 Plus 7 6s SE Samsung Galaxy S9 S8 Edge S7 S6 Note 8 & other Smartphone [10 Dollar Amazon Credit ], so I could use my old stereo that didn't have an aux jack or usb port with my iPhone. ... show more
