This is my first time to order wire washing cloths. They are not absorbent because each piece has holes. There is no solid backing. So when washing dishes, you'll need to put detergent on the object, not the cloth. Thus, you'll be using more detergent than you would with a sponge. However, I think these are more hygienic than a sponge because it doesn't really absorb. The material is some sort of wiry mesh fabric, and the weave will collect small particles of food, etc. So these are definitely disposable, but each should hopefully last twice as long as a typical sponge. I would use these for gently scrubbing dinnerware, cookware, and countertops. They certainly work better at getting crumbs off my countertop, but I find that I need to keep a sponge nearby when I want a tool that absorbs water. I like that these smallish dish cloths (they measure not quite 8x8 rather than the standard, which is over 11x11). They have an open weave of metallic fiber that promises to be quick to dry. I noted that it had decent scrubbing power when cleaning both dishes and a countertop, but because of the open weave it's easy to rinse, which seems more hygienic. They washed well on warm, but came out of a medium drier in little rolls. Note that while there are many sellers of similar cloths, these seem to be a better value than most. ... show more

I tried these metal washcloths on my laminate kitchen counters first. They did a good job scraping up dried bits of food, but I still needed a rag to mop up the dirty water left behind. These metal cloths are not absorbent at all. The next test was my inflatable hottub that had been left outside 2 Ohio winters in a row following a garage/partial house fire. The krud kutter I bought from a local big box did nothing. I tried a metal cloth, a microfiber cloth, and a dollar store toilet brush. The metal cloth did much better than the microfiber cloth alone. The microfiber cloth was needed to wipe up the muddy water. I tried the dollar store brush next and it did a great job. I still needed the microfiber cloth to wipe off dirty water. I have a lot of cleanup to do on this hottub project still, but I'm not sure the wire cloth is going to be useful here. It's good if you are washing pots and pans, like a (usually) green scrubby. ... show more

I ordered these and thought they were dish cloths with a metal scrubber on one side and I was wrong. These are basically a flat metal scrubber. Come to find out after I showed these to my wife she apparently had some in her cart to order.
