  • Beautiful bar stool, but have the right tools when assembling!
Let me start off by saying these bar stools look and feel very, VERY nice when they are finished. They are incredibly sturdy and I have no doubt they could survive an extremely long time and hold very heavy weight. As many other reviewers have noted, the assembly is a PAIN... with what they provide you in the box, that is! This is the only reason I did not rate these stools 5/5 stars. Here are some tips on what we did when assembling the stools that made them 1000x easier to put together: 1. Toss the allen wrench they provide you into the trash immediately. Don't even look at it, unless you feel like stripping the screws right off the bat. 2. Have a small ratchet, some wood glue (or normal school glue even), a microfiber cloth and a hammer handy. You will need to attach a 4mm hex bit to the ratchet for the screws they provide you (and yes, you CAN use the screws provided! They are good quality, although we are still unsure why they give you galvanized Tapcon screws intended for outdoor cement work... they're not cheap to produce!) 3. Assemble both the legs like Figure 1 in the instructions before you being to screw in the screws. Make SURE you use the correct pieces of wood in the correct holes (shorter cross piece goes in the lower hole, each side should have a long leg piece with a dot and a leg without a dot at the top) as well as the correct length screws (short, for this part). 4. When screwing in the screws, go slow and steady; do not apply too much force/torque at once or you WILL STRIP THE SCREW! Fortunately, if this happens (and you are not too close to the end) you can unscrew them out and use a replacement screw they provide you. With the ratchet, it is very easy to get the screws in quickly while not stripping them. Do the same process for the long screws for the seat. 5. When you finish assembling the body of the chair (including attaching the seat), choose a side of the stool you want to face the wall (in case you make a mistake on the first couple of cover pegs). Put a small glob of glue on the flat side of the wooden peg and put it in one of the holes on the side of the chair that will face the wall. Press it in as far as you can, then cover the peg with a microfiber cloth. Take the hammer and LIGHTLY tap it in, checking every once in a while to see how far down it's gone. If you hammer too hard or too deep, the peg will go too far in and splinter the wood surrounding it. Use the microfiber cloth to wipe up any excess glue and it won't leave residue on the chair. Hope this helps everyone! I am also attaching a picture of our stools in customer images. ... show more

  • Perfect for small spaces.
These chairs are perfect. I had originally bought some very expensive leather backed chairs, but they took up too much space. These are perfect for my kitchen bar, because I don't have a lot of space between the bar and the furniture in the great room. These fit perfectly underneath the bar giving us more walk room. My dear BF put them together, and since I didn't hear a lot of bad language, I am thinking that they went together pretty easily. They are not the kind of chairs that you're going to fall asleep in, but they are perfect for what we need. Very sturdy. ... show more

  • The quality, and finish of the wood was excellent. The hardware was lacking.
These 29 inch saddle seat bar stools almost hit the mark, but, we had trouble with the hardware and returned them. The quality, and finish of the wood was excellent. Shiny, but not overdone. The wood we saw was up to standard. The hex head screws were the problem for us. One of the four screws securing the seat, and five of the twelve screws in the legs broke while assembling the stool, leaving half the screw in the pilot hole and inaccessible without specialized tools and skills. We managed to assemble the stool, but it was wobbly. The screw heads stripped before they were close to pulling the joints together. If we assembled the stool again, we might try some sort of lubrication on the screw threads, or possibly cleaning the pilot holes. One of the footrests split as the screw got snug. We only assembled one stool before making the decision to return them. There were a few moments of confusion as we studied the instructions. They contained only diagrams, not much writing. After you get the idea, they were helpful. We surmised the instructions were an attempt to bridge across many languages with pictures and labels only. After the mental adjustment, it was okay. With hex heads made from harder steel, and using larger pilot holes, these stools could easily be a four or five star product. We wanted these stools to work, but this purchase did not work out for us. HTH :) Winsome 20089 Satori Stool, 29", Black ... show more

  • Absolutely terrible quality chairs
It's hard to understate the absolutely atrocious quality of these chairs. We bought four of them because our gym has a kitchenette, and we wanted to have some bar seating for our patrons. We liked the styling and although we didn't expect them to be high-end or anything, we figured they'd be suitable until we could invest in some fancier chairs. The screws that hold the chairs together frequently came loose, and the frequent re-tightening caused the wood to strip and crack. Eventually they'd wobble to the point of breaking. Currently two of the four chairs we purchased have already broken. A third is very loose and wobbly, and the fourth needs frequent re-tightening of the screws. We've had these chairs only about six months, and we already have to replace them — which, since we've only been in business for about six months, is not money we'd expected to have to spend. These chairs would make fantastic firewood, or perhaps props for the WWE. Just don't sit on them. ... show more

  • Great stool, but why do they insist on Allen Wrench screws?
This stool arrived right when expected. Fully assembled it seems sturdy and looks pretty good, especially given the cost. The assembly was very straight forward. There aren't very many pieces and they are easily identified matching the description and the pictures. My only complaint is why do manufacturers of assembly furniture insist on using screws with an Allen wrench top? Why not a flat or Phillips type of screw head? The Allen wrench provided is adequate. It just doesn't always get a good grip when turning. Be patient when screwing in the screws. Another pair of hands really helps. I can see why a ratchet would be a dream to have when assembling this stool. There are some very tight spaces to work in and the Allen wrench has to be used like a ratchet. That's where a lot of patience is needed. It took about 1/2 hour to assemble with two of us working on the stool. The screws are difficult to tighten when all finished, but that is a GOOD THING. They are supposed to be tight for a sturdy stool. ... show more
