  • A classic design that works better than the indoor style and will last for years...
I had one of these for years at my old house and had to leave it behind when I moved. It worked so well I just bought another one for the new place. This is an omni-directional design...meaning it picks up signals from all directions equally. If you have a multi-path problem this may not be the antenna for you. Also, it does not provide any significant "gain". This aside...I live about 75 miles from Sacramento, CA in the Sierra foothills and this antenna lets me receive about a dozen HD radio signals easily...something the dipole style antenna supplied with the tuner could not do. For under $20 it works great. I have this affixed to a garden pergola about 7 feet off the ground...going to put it up on the roof but only to get it out the way. I've had these antennas at various times for the last 30 years and they perform well and just seem to last and last. The previous one was mounted about 35 feet up on a tower and survived over 10 years of hot CA summer weather, wind, rain, ice and snow. Seriously...if you have the room to mount this antenna just buy it...you will be happy with its performance...it will last for years...you'll give it to your kids... ... show more

  • WOW
The internal FM antenna that came on my Sony Home Theater would allow me to receive just 3 stations no matter how I aligned it. I'm not an FM guy, but my wife is and she has 2-3 favorite stations that we could not receive. I installed this antenna on an old TV antenna tower that I left up from years ago, and ran 50 feet of coax. All I can say is WOW. There is a strong FM station signal on just about any setting on the tuner now. I couldn't believe it. My wife is a happy camper now, and that makes me happy. Antenna is relatively small (maybe 2 foot spokes sticking out in 4 directions) and lightweight, and it was very easy to mount and install with the included hardware. Seems a little flimsy, but we've had severe thunderstorms and lots of wind--it is still standing without any damage, and working as well as ever. ... show more

  • Great combination of price, function and simplicity.
I needed something better than the simple di-pole wire antenna that came with my receiver and this antenna fit my needs perfectly. It is designed specifically for FM and It pulls in FM stations that I did not expect to be able to get. In addition, it is smaller and less obtrusive than a full TV antenna so I don't mind having it on my roof. Since I already had coax cable to my roof and the antenna is small and omni-directional, Installation was almost trivial. Furthermore, there are no active components so I expect it will have a *long* service free life. If you are in an urban or semi urban area and need an FM antenna, this is probably the right antenna for you. The negative: I only gave it 4 stars because there was a shipping hick-up of some kind and I did not get the antenna for several days after the expected date. I don't know if the problem was with the vendor, Amazon or the shipping company. ... show more

  • Must Have for Decent FM Reception
This antenna is "cut" in a dual dipole length that is tuned specifically for the FM band. It's omni-directional (or close to being omni). It works like a charm! You might want to experiment whether you get better reception with vertical or horizontal polarization (orientation) of the antenna. Try to get the antenna up as high as possible. If you want to get decent FM stereo reception you are going to need a well designed outdoor FM antenna. I live 65 miles from several FM transmitters that sit on top of a high mountain and for which I have direct line-of-sight reception. Degraded multi-path signals are not a problem at this listening site. With a good quality FM tuner (Yamaha T-85 built in 1986) and this well designed HD-6010 FM antenna the signals are nice and clear. The sound is amazing and very close to CD quality. If you live in a semi-rural area like I do, you might also want to consider getting a decent low noise preamp to boost the signal at the antenna mount. I'm using a Radio Shack High-Gain HDTV-FM amplifier (Model 15-321) with 30 db of max gain added at the antenna mount (i.e.., close to the FM antenna). It helps push a strong signal from the antenna through the 75 feet of coax to the FM tuner. ... show more

  • 5 Stars for attic installation. 4 Stars for outdoor installation
Pretty darn good Omni directional FM antenna that I have installed in my attic. It improved my FM reception 100% over my dipole antenna. I have it wired to 3 separate locations in my house using a signal amp to the farthest location in my basement. I would highly recommend it if you’re planning on installing it in an attic. However, it’s pretty lightweight and I’m not sure it would hold up in an outdoor installation. A couple of reviews mentioned that weakness, which is why I only gave it 4 stars for outdoor use in the headline. For an attic/indoor installation, I definitely give it 5 stars. ... show more

  • I built a DIY that performs the same
I don't usually rate things lower, but I am not impressed with this antenna. Maybe on a fringe area it would perform better. What I did is strip the insulation and jacket off some RG6 Coax cable to where I had about 10 inches of center conductor (stinger) showing. I mounted the cable with the center conductor pointing straight up. (to achieve omin direction) This actually worked a little bit better than the antenna on some stations, others the antenna worked about the same. Some frequencies I think the antenna did better, but not all. Again, if you are in a fringe area maybe it will work well for you. I live about 30 miles north of Houston and my coax DIY does great in pulling in over 40 stations. For reference I have a Yamaha R-N301 2 channel receiver. ... show more
