  • This Wilton entry-level press is perfect. It works well
I wanted cookie press cookies without paying a lot of money for the press, seeing as it's just a seasonal thing for me at this point (Christmas only). This Wilton entry-level press is perfect. It works well, but I offer one word of caution: USE THE RECIPE ON THE BOX FIRST. I used a Martha Stewart "perfect cookie press cookies" recipe and the unbaked dough would NOT stick to the cool pan as it must when making press cookies. If the dough does not stick, then one has to manhandle each cookie off the bottom of the press and thereby ruin it. I was almost ready to give up on the press, thinking "Martha Stewart couldn't possibly be wrong," but I figured in all fairness to Wilton, I should use THEIR recipe on the side of the box before chucking the little monster. Lo and behold, Martha doesn't know everything after all -- the cookies stuck PERFECTLY with the Wilton recipe, which baked up nice and tasty, too. This press would work for anybody who wants an inexpensive but durable press that does what it claims. ... show more

  • Works Perfectly!
Wilton has come through for me once again, this cookie shooter is perfect! I don't know why I would expect anything else from Wilton. I've been using Wilton for years and they have never failed me. I followed the recipe on the box and my cookies came out just right. The only problem I'm having is my husband is eating them almost as fast as I can make them. If you are nervous your first time watch Wilton's video guide on Youtube. Enjoy! ... show more

  • This gun is made for soft dough, I made over 1500 cookies with this gun, so far so good.
I used to have a Wilton Ultra II gun (for 15 years) and I loved it, until I broke it before Christmas! In need of a new cookie gun and I came across this cheaper version at Amazon. I did not expect too much because of its price. I am familiar with the gun design because it is similar to my old Ultra II. I am pleasantly surprised that I am able to make over 20 batches of cookies so far (each batch yields about 75 to 80 cookies. There are few things you may want to pay attention: 1. The dough - this gun can only be used for a soft dough. 2. The purple tear drop shape of the top - turn the pointy end to align to the handle direction. This will ensure the click discharges the right amount of dough. The first few cookies may be a little mess up, because the dough need to be compacted inside the tube. The fourth or fifth cookies will be just fine. 3. Tight screw the top and bottom with no gap. 4. When you feel it's getting harder to press, unscrew the top a little to release the pressure that built up (I broke my old gun because of this). Overall it is not a bad product. I agree it is cheap made, but I don't believe it deserved one-star. I hope my experience can help other users. ... show more

  • Worked brilliantly. Follow the instruction on the box.
Where has this been all my life!? For $6 and change this was an incredible deal, worth at least twice as much. I used a vegan recipe for spritz cookies and tried about six of the design cartridges. If you have trouble, follow the instructions on the box. Don’t use parchment paper, ensure the teeth and purple knob are facing the right way for what you intend to do, keep your dough on the cold side. Sopping wet dough will not work...with any cookie gun. This worked so well, I ended up making a second batch of dough right away. Just be careful not to over do it, like I did. ;-) Pressing cookies is super easy with this cookie gun. Remember it also takes strength and effort in your part too. My hand was tired at the end. :-) ... show more

  • Not user friendly at all
Not recommended at all. It looks ergonomic and easy to use, but once you start making the cookies, the crank doesnt click and does not move the dough down as much as it should. And I had to physically push down on the top to get the crank to click down another level so I could push the dough out. My hand started to hurt squeezing the handle after a few cookies and I’m a young and strong person. There is no indicator that shows you that the cookie is the correct size, so I always either put not enough or too much dough so I’d constantly have to re-do the cookie. None of my cookies came out the same size. The soft handle on the ergonomic handle also started to peel and wear after the first use. Overall, I lost my patience with this while making a double-batch. I got most of it through but it took over an hour to crank them out when it should have only taken 10-15 minutes. ... show more

  • Will probably work with a looser dough
I will update next time I make cookies, but my initial experience with this product was not as great as I had hoped. There is not a spritzer recipe or book that comes with this product so I used my go-to recipe from the 1963 Betty Crocker Cookie Cookbook. This recipe has worked just fine in all other spritzers I have used but perhaps the consistency was still too thick for this Wilton Spritzer to handle. The handle is a little finicky. If you turn it to the side the mechanism does not ratchet (so you can reset position when you reload). There is not much room for error, if the handle is not exactly perpendicular the mechanism will not ratchet. I tried the Christmas tree disc and the snowflake disc. The instructions say you only have to pump the handle once for a cookie to come out, but I had to pump at least four times for the cookie to even touch my pan, then I had to scrape it off of the disc to get it onto the pan (which of course messes up the design). I did try the discs in my XO spritzer (which costs 5 times the amount this one does). I had no issue with the cookie dough coming out, however the dough did not want to shape the way it was supposed to. The tree would not stick together and the snowflake did not want to detach. This was a result of the discs, not the dough because when I used the XO discs in the XO spritzer it worked just fine. Again, I will update next time I make cookies, I suspect it will work better with a looser dough, but I just could not get it to work properly. ... show more
