I love to bake and I wanted to try to make a ball of yarn cake that I saw online and the person making it had recommended using this set. I was a little hesitant while using it, but hold and behold it worked perfectly. I had two perfect halves of circles and made my cake very easily. This truly was a lifesaver because since I am not a professional baker it is difficult for me to shape cakes perfectly on my own so this pan set has made it much easier. I plan to use this pan set again in the future. I used 2 1/2 cups of cake mix batter per pan. You need two boxes and will have some leftover batter. I baked for the time shown on the box for 2 8” round plus added 15 additional minutes. We made three “golfball cakes” and they all were cooked perfectly. Once they came out of the oven, I used a serrated knife to flatten the bottoms level. They slid out of the pan very easily. I oiled and floured each pan for easy removal. The pans are thin metal but I washed carefully and had no issues with bending or denting. ... show more

These are made from a very thin aluminum, think soda can, and can bend easily. I also would not feel comfortable stacking them inside each other or anything else inside them without padding in between. As far as baking goes, however, they have the Wilton quality you would expect. This cake pan was perfect and I had not issues fulfilling my son's birthday request. I was worried about the cake cooking all the way through. I had no problems (just kept it in the oven longer and check it with a tooth pick). Second, I was leary about how the cake would come out of the pans. This pan was great! I greased the halves (forgot to powder with flour) and was still able to get them out nicely. I used an ice cream scoop to loosen the sides gently first and they just fell out. If you’re using box cake, I would bake 2 boxes. The cake seems small, but one cake box didn’t bake to the rim for me. I think if you can bake it to the rim then cut off what rises above it, then it’s a perfect sphere. I did cut off a little of the bottom so it was flat and easy for me to decorate. Good quality ball pans however really small. Would look okay on top of a cake. Diameter is six inches and each half is only three inches tall. Each half only hold 2 1/2 cups liquid. I would have kept if it was larger even though the box it came in was torn in two places. Shipping box was fine and it came quickly. For the size of the pans I think it is over priced. I bought this along with fat daddios 8x4 round to make the pregnant mommies cake. These are too big and the fat daddio one was too small for the belly. I used 1 box cake (white) but used 1/4 cup oil and 3 whole eggs. Baked at 325 gas convection for 50 minutes. The 8" took 80 minutes and I used 1 box butter pecan cake mix. Prepared pans with stick butter and flour and they came out perfectly. Won't work for what I wanted but may use in the future. The pans are very thin and bend easily, handle with care.
