  • Great little sprayer, simple to use, saved my day with Polycrylic on a nightstand
Color: Green
***Update***: Bumped this up to 5 stars now after this sprayer saved the day on a nightstand refinish yesterday. I had tried brushing, wiping thick, then thinned satin oil Polyurethane with pretty lousy results. Nothing I did made the small, simple nightstand top look good with brushed or wiped oil Poly, even after playing around with thinning, changing brushing / wiping technique, wet sanding, polishing, etc. Awful. Thought I'd ruined the nightstand. Just about threw in the towel yesterday before I remembered this little sprayer tucked up on a shelf in my garage. So I sanded the botched oil finish for the umpteenth time again just to flatten, give it some "teeth", and to get rid of the streaks, dirt, unevenness, etc. Still had good stain coverage beneath, so I cleaned the top thoroughly then found some water Polycrylic satin that I had used years ago on bookshelves and thought I'd try spraying that as a last ditch effort. First try...no thinning, sprayed on pretty thick, then settled, then dried...beautiful satin finish, flat, even, "deep" looking, etc. I couldn't believe it. Saved the day. So after spraying a couple of doors and now this nightstand, I have come to better appreciate this little sprayer, its features, and included accessories. First, since this sprayer is mostly plastic, I will probably never spray anything but water-based, water-cleanup paint or finishes with it. Having cleaned the sprayer a few times now, it's pretty easy with warm, soapy water in a deep sink, but I wouldn't want to try cleaning it with solvents. Might work for a time or two, but I think solvents would degrade the plastic parts over time. Thought more about the quality of this sprayer and value for $. Little things like the included metal screen strainer which fits perfectly over the neck of the sprayer's paint cup and quart and half pint cans for easy pouring and straining (this was essential and worked great for the Polycrylic satin yesterday). The tips of the 5 or so included spray tips are brass for durability and spray pattern consistency. Refined parts fit and the way the sprayer comes apart so easily for cleaning then reassembles easily. Really makes spray prep then cleanup a breeze. Even though this sprayer is mostly plastic, the parts feel pretty substantial. Hard to describe, but seems like it will last if I can keep it clean. Motor / blower is strong enough to spray thinned latex and sprayed unthinned Poly just fine. Motor / blower "gun" half is separate from the parts that come into contact with paint and this is all easily separated when it comes time for cleaning. For the money and considering the convenience of a small, self-contained spraying system, this is hard to beat for simple shop projects. And I have to reiterate that after yesterday's "saved-the-day" experience, I will prefer this sprayer and sprayed, water-based paints and finishes, over brushing in the future. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Used it to spray latex on a door. Sprayer works for latex, but sprays on thick even though I felt that I had thinned it. I was thankful that I had the door off and sprayed the paint with the door laying flat on sawhorses. Even though the latex went on thick with quite a bit of orange peel, the paint settled as it dried and produced a beautiful finish on the door. So a couple of things...latex paint comes thick in the can. I probably should've thinned it more and tried a smaller nozzle tip, especially if I had to spray with the door still on the hinges and vertical. Second, since most of this sprayer is plastic, I would hesitate to spray anything but water-based paint with it if I wanted it to last. ... show more

  • Unreliable
Color: Green
My first one wouldn’t spray paint just hot air. Returned it and was sent a replacement. I painted a few kitchen cabinets and results were good. Later, I thinned exterior latex paint about 1:3 ratio water to paint. Tested with viscosity cup for a 35 second drip rate. I picked the smallest mm nozzle 1.5-1.8. to paint my white front fiberglass door. Going slow, Outdoors, I sprayed 3 coats on each side waiting 45 minutes between coats. I also washed out nozzle and spray tip between each time. Very lightly sanded with 2000 grit sandpaper. Result was very good like a factory finish. Sprayer would drip after releasing trigger so I held a paper towel to tip until drip stopped careful not to let any drops get on the surface. Within 9 months, 3rd time of use, I tried painting inside walls and ceiling of a closet. Paint wouldn’t spray consistently, sometimes only air. I took apart and cleaned again using needle on nozzle. Still not much better. Then it wouldn’t turn off when nozzle was released and had to pull plug to shut off. Found that the plastic arm behind trigger did not come forward enough when trigger was released. Had to grab it with fingers and pull forward to shut off blower. Ended up using a roller and brush. The Manual falsely claims good customer service but provided no means of contacting them. Low Amazon stock (only 2 units) makes me suspect problems with this vendor. I’m looking at other sprayers to replace this one. ... show more

  • Surprised at the build quality and what's included!
Color: Green
I was given one of these to try out and I can say I am very surprised at both the quality and what they included with the purchase at that price. I will start off by saying that I have two Graco sprayers, a large one for houses and a small hand held one like this for doors and smaller projects. This is not a Graco sprayer and anyone looking for that build is not going to find it, but I also spent about 8X as much money on my Graco and the tips cost close to the price of this one. It doesn't make sense to compare them, but this thing is surprisingly awesome for the price and perfect for DIY people that don't want to drop $300 on a sprayer they may only use a couple of times. Things I like about it: - Accessories: It comes with all the stuff I would need to buy. 6 differet tips, screens and filters, fuel, cleaning tools - Light. It's about 1/3 of the weight of my Graco, this thing is super light and will not fatigue my arm like my Graco will. It also holds quite a bit of paint. -Durable. While light, it doesn't feel like it is going to break in my hand while using it. The trigger is smooth. - Powerful. This thing moves a lot of air if you need it, it tells me it can be used on larger projects if you need it (Just have to fill the paint more often but I think it will do it just fine). Granted, this won't apply to me since I have an actual house sprayer and this is not intended to paint a house). - Cord. I do love the long cord on this. It may seem like a small thing but I hate that my Graco has a small cord because the extension cord connection is right at the machine and when I tie it so it won't disconnect while moving it makes it more in the way. Great feature. -Manual. I like not only that it came with 6 tips, but the manual clearly spells out which tips you use for what kind of projects. If you are confused on which tip is which, they put it on the brass nozzle, that is my only gripe, would have been nice if they stamped it on the plastic ring around the tip, but a sharpie will fix that just fine so it's not a big deal. The weather has not been cooperating, so I have not had a chance to use it on the outdoor projects I have this spring, but I have no doubt it will do the job just fie. ... show more
