Description

Wheeler's Gunsmithing Screwdriver Set is the kit that belongs on every gunsmithing bench. The well thought-out bit selection will put an end to burred, buggered and busted up screw slots on any gun that comes your way. The bits make up the heart of any screwdriver set and Wheeler's are the finest available. They're made from S2 tool steel and hardened to 56-58 Rockwell "C." Unlike other screwdriver suppliers, Wheeler's engineers measured the screws on over one hundred modern and antique firearms to make sure that we offered bits for every situation. Whether you're working on a Browning Superposed, a Remington 700, a Smith & Wesson revolver, or a Colt Single Action, you'll find that there's a bit to fit every screw on your gun.

  • More than I expected
Style: 89 Piece Pattern Name: Screwdriver Set
Haven't used the tools yet, but from reading the reviews the only negative thing customers had to say was about the hinges on the box all I can say is that they must have listened because the hinges are very nice and robust. Regarding the tools I was pleasantly surprised to see brand specific tools for gunsmithing ie Rem,Glock, S&W and more. Well thought out and it would cost much more if you had to buy these tools individually. One of those specific tools would cost as much as this whole kit. ... show more

  • Made in China

I thought I read where Whheeler was made in the USA. That's the primary reason I bought the brand. It seems to be a very good set and has many of the specialty bits that are needed. It appears to be a quality piece. I just don't like sending money to a communist nation that would like to destroy the USA. I would much rather support our own people than a government that tries to intimidate our military and will bring harm to the USA if we keep doing business with them. This is why I gave it a 4-star rating. ... show more

  • Good enough
Style: 89 Piece Pattern Name: Screwdriver Set
I needed this for gunsmithing. I needed a hollow ground set that will last a little while. It’s not Grace USA quality, but it’s okay. Not to cheap, but good enough. Worth buying if starting out.

  • Disappointing Surprise, but 5 years later a great surprise.
Style: 89 Piece Pattern Name: Screwdriver Set
I was looking forward to receiving this screwdriver set. Tired of cheap, poorly made junk from China, I was excited to find this seemly well made quality set at a reasonable price. Instead of the fine quality precision hardened alloy tools as advertised that I was expecting, what I got was cheap, poorly made junk from China. I could have bought this quality at another national chain for $50 less if cheap junk was what I wanted. Amazon should be embarrassed that this sham of a tool kit is on their website. Oh, and by the way, I will be returning it. 11/21/2015 I never did return this laughable facsimile of a tool kit, I have kept it around to remind me to do better research when buying needed tools. That said, I was just reading over the reviews for the last 12 months and am surprised that out of over 150 reviews, there are only about 7 that are less than 4 stars. What's up with that? It's not like all these people don't know what they are talking about and many praise the fine machine work and hardness of the bits. Has the quality improved? Are they coming out of different factories? The poor reviews just mirror what I found but with so few did they just receive some of the old stock? If I had the spare $ just hanging around I would buy another one just to compare it with the junk that has been laughing at me for the last 4 years. 1/18/17 After looking over the reviews on this set again, I am still shocked at the overwhelming high reviews.which leads me to think that maybe I wound up with one that was meant as a sales display or meant to be sent somewhere where they want pewter like metal bits. I emailed the company that distributes them and asked them if my theory might be true. In the answer I was told that they are designed to bend instead of break to save damaging the screws or firearms. I replied that because they were so soft they have damaged both screws and firearms and if they were hardened like stated in the description, they would not bend or break. Waiting to see what they reply. 2/7/17 What a reply it was. The company offered to send me a new set. I replied that was not necessary and after 5 years I was not looking for anything from them save an answer to my question. They sent me one anyway. Now I have the opportunity to see the answer to my question for myself. I must know if I got a set from a bad run or not. So this time I took it along with my old one to my gunsmith buddy and we really looked them over. We grabbed 5 bits at random from each set and he did a hardness test on them. My old ones averaged a 38 on the Rockwell scale. The new ones averaged 58. The old ones were so poorly finished many had casting marks on them. The new ones, although still a bit rough all looked like they had been cleaned up. The two holders with the magnets? The new ones did indeed hold the bits in place. Not as well as I thought they should, but a definite improvement over all. At least the holders look like they are actually made for the bits. I did kind of take care of the problem by digging out the magnets and replacing them with some super strong rare earth magnets and now they hold the bits with a more respectful grip. I give the set 4 stars, mostly because of the holders, but I would give Battenfeld Technologies, Inc.,(the distributor) 6 stars for going above and beyond 5 years after the fact. I just hope that I am not looked upon as one of those folks who spew out 5 star reviews when they are sent free stuff for an "unbiased" review. I would not have changed from one star to 4 without the product really deserving of it. ... show more
