Description

The Wheeler Delta Series Maintenance Mat is perfect for any tactical rifle lover, featuring a screen printed exploded view of a tactical rifle Carbine. The Mat is made of a dark gray no-mar, padded neoprene surface with a durable non-skid rubber backing to protect firearm finishes while helping to keep track of small parts. Excess oils and solvents are absorbed into the mat, keeping the surface clean and dry. Each mat is machine or hand washable with mild detergent and water and it rolls up easily to fit in your range box.

Even knowing the dimensions of this mat, I was pretty shocked at how big this thing is. It is enormous. The previous cleaning mat I was using was a "normal" rifle mat, and this thing dwarfs it easily. Numerous times I’ve wished for a bigger mat, especially when breaking an AR apart into multiple pieces. So once I saw the size of this one, I knew I had to give it a try. However, it is quite a bit thinner than my previous mat. That’s not a huge concern, and it does seem to stop liquids, oil etc from seeping through without any issue. I also think the grey color is a somewhat bizarre choice, as it’s much more likely to show dirt and grime than a black mat would. I uploaded a couple pictures to help demonstrate the scale. I included a 10.5 inch AR pistol, a Glock 22, as well as my old rifle/cleaning mat to demonstrating the difference in size. I also included a picture of the edges, side by side to show the difference in thickness. A couple reviews mentioned the diagram on the mat starting to fade, though that doesn’t really concern me. I don’t use the diagram for anything, I know the parts of my rifle without it. But I will update this review if I feel the quality is lacking in the future. For now, I’d definitely recommend this mat to others. This is my 2nd mat to replace my old one. I like the full size of this Wheeler mat. I don't use it for it's original purpose, I use it on my office desk to protect it and as a mouse pad. I do all my cleaning in the garage with a big painter's paper roll. I agree with the other review of the smell. I left the fan blowing on me and the mat to dissipate the smell, only took a day. I still use the old mat to protect my tool chest that has a solid wood top. Update: I'm disappointed in the quality of this new mat. It seems thinner and has already started wearing out. Very high quality mat that is an excellent surface for gun maintenance or other tasks where you need a soft surface to protect both the table as well as the gear (guns, etc.). The mat unrolls flat even after having been rolled tightly, and has an anti-slip bottom that does not skid or move around, and the rubber-like material (on the bottom) also prevents the penetration of oils or solvents to the table. I've put one of these mats through dozens of messy cleanings and see no evidence that oils have leaked through. The top surface (feels a bit like a mouse pad) will get stained, of course (dark spots/areas where oil contacts the mat). It was perfect. I knew the dimensions when I purchased but having it on the desktop and working over, you appreciate how big it is. Nothing falls off while working on your long guns. Right amount of thickness as well.

Great size - 47" wide versus 36" for most other ones on the market. This covers my work bench perfectly. Strong chemical smell out of box, but it aired most of the way already. It is not any thinner than the small sized one I have with the Glock breakdown.

    • Nice cleaning/work pad for your AR-15s or other guns
I like this mat. I keep it rolled up in a drawer under one of the work tables in my workshop in the basement. When I roll it out, it lays flat and provides a great service for cleaning or working on guns. I like the exploded view of the AR15 and helps me remember the proper name for parts if I want to order ore change out. I think it's worth the money! ... show more
