Description

This business classic features straight-talking advice you’ll never hear in school. Featuring a new foreword by Ariel Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell Mark H. McCormack, one of the most successful entrepreneurs in American business, is widely credited as the founder of the modern-day sports marketing industry. On a handshake with Arnold Palmer and less than a thousand dollars, he started International Management Group and, over a four-decade period, built the company into a multimillion-dollar enterprise with offices in more than forty countries. To this day, McCormack’s business classic remains a must-read for executives and managers at every level. Relating his proven method of “applied people sense”in key chapters on sales, negotiation, reading others and yourself, and executive time management, McCormack presents powerful real- world guidance on • the secret life of a deal • management philosophies that don’t work (and one that does) • the key to running a meeting—and how to attend one • the positive use of negative reinforcement • proven ways to observe aggressively and take the edge • and much more Praise for What They Don’t Teach You at Harvard Business School “Incisive, intelligent, and witty, What They Don’t Teach You at Harvard Business School is a sure winner—like the author himself. Reading it has taught me a lot.”—Rupert Murdoch, executive chairman, News Corp, chairman and CEO, 21st Century Fox “Clear, concise, and informative . . . Like a good mentor, this book will be a valuable aid throughout your business career.”—Herbert J. Siegel, chairman, Chris-Craft Industries, Inc. “Mark McCormack describes the approach I have personally seen him adopt, which has not only contributed to the growth of his business, but mine as well.”—Arnold Palmer “There have been what we love to call dynasties in every sport. IMG has been different. What this one brilliant man, Mark McCormack, created is the only dynasty ever over all sport.”—Frank Deford, senior contributing writer, Sports Illustrated Read more

  • The operating manual for dealing with people FINALLY comes to Kindle!
You should know this book was nearly IMPOSSIBLE to come by until it came to Kindle - even the paperback at one point was going for $50+ on Ebay. The Hardcover I'd seen for sale for as much as $400! You dear reader, are lucky to have it so readily accessible now that it has come to Kindle for a fair price. Why? Because it is the consummate complete manual on how to be an effective human being. This book is basically an operating system of how to function in life as an ethical opportunist. A combo of Taoism, the Matrix and Dale Carnegie. It's not just for business -- however, if you ARE in business, especially personal services or sales, you are losing money, clients and career momentum by NOT reading it... I digress, not just for business, but in all interactions with other humans. The author gives entertaining stories that are easily relatable, easily digestible, along with fascinating takes on the psychology of human interactions, deal making, and the day to day observations that go into getting what you want from others, especially by finding out how to give them what they want. Once you figure it out, and start living it, you'll begin to see the Matrix of human interaction, and be able to take advantage of it for *hopefully ethical* personal gain. Enjoy my good friends, enjoy! ... show more

  • Indispensable insights for new grads and startup founders
Mark's book provides practical advice and wisdom on the things you can't learn in school, such as interpersonal skills, getting ahead, reading people, and selling with passion. While some of the anecdotes are dated, the advice is timeless. I highly recommend this for new grads and startup founders alike. ... show more

  • Lot's of examples
Great book! This book goes in great detail about important professional skills. Skills that most don't learn at school. So, it's a great way to stay ahead and learn more about the art of becoming successful through people and selling skills.

  • Key Insights:
This book had a lot of valuable information that I am going to take with me now that I just finished reading it! For the sake of this review I will sum up my top 3 insights: 1)Successful people are dissatisfied with their own accomplishments, always thinking about whats next? 2)Ability to peak their performance, they perform when the lights are the brightest 3)"He never believes he is performing as well as he actually is." ... show more

  • Classic
I havent' finished the book yet, about 75% through. But I'm on a roll reviewing products I recently purchased, and I feel like I'm ready to give an opinion on this book. It deserves its reputation as a classic on business. I've already implemented some of the ideas into my own business. I rank it up there with "How to Win Friends and Influence People" and "Persuasion" as having just some great "how to succeed in life" knowledge that is broadly applicable to wide range of situations and should be essential reading to any person who wants to succeed. ... show more

  • Informative
This book was suggested by a former co - worker. Having browsed a handful of pages of her copy, I proceeded to purchase my own copy. This book provides me with precisely the kind of guidance I have been looking for when it comes to people and situations. I look forward to finding other such similar books. I have also purchased "Never Wrestle With a Pig". Formal education gives you the basics of a skill and does not equip you with the necessary skills for survival in the world beyond formal education. ... show more
