Description

A New York Times bestseller! This “infectious and contagious” (“Stone Cold” Steve Austin) memoir from WWE superstar Rebecca Quin—a.k.a. The Man, a.k.a. Becky Lynch—delves into her earliest wrestling days, her scrappy beginnings, and her meteoric rise to fame. Raised in Dublin, Ireland, in a devoutly Catholic family, Rebecca Quin constantly invented new ways to make her mother worry—roughhousing with the neighborhood kids, hosting secret parties while her parents were away, enrolling in a warehouse wrestling school, nearly breaking her neck and almost kneecapping a WWE star before her own wrestling career even began—and she was always in search of a thrilling escape from the ordinary. Rebecca’s childhood love of wrestling set her on an unlikely path. With few female wrestlers to look to for guidance, Rebecca pursued a wrestling career hoping to change the culture and move it away from the antiquated disrespect so often directed at the elite female athletes who grace the ring. Even as a teenager, she knew that she would stop at nothing to earn a space among the greatest wrestlers of our time and to pave a new path for female fighters. Culled from decades of journal entries, this “endearing debut memoir” (Publishers Weekly) offers a candid depiction of the complex woman behind the character Rebecca Quin plays on TV. Read more

  • Relatable
Her struggles helped me reflect on my own upbringing. Even into adulthood, I always ran away from a dream of mine, always offering up excuses that were valid, but nonetheless, simply that, excuses. Being a wrestling fan since a child, it was refreshing and emotional to learn that one of the biggest stars in the world, despite being the opposite sex, struggled with the same feelings I have felt. It was so easy to read and recommend to any wrestling fan, or to anyone for that matter. I leave an even bigger fan and having more respect not just for her, but for all the wrestlers I watch every week. ... show more

  • An entertaining and enthralling life story

  • I loved everything here. I just wanted more.
This is going to be a little bit different kind of review than you usually see on here - this a memoir written by one of WWE's biggest superstars - and one of my favorites! - about her life in and out of the WWE and professional wrestling. I loved pulling the curtain back and seeing what goes on backstage, how a professional wrestling storyline is developed (or not), and all about Quin's life. Is it breaking the K-Fab wall? I don't know, but I love it! Writing Style: 9 - Quin's writing style is easy to follow and understand. It's enthusiastic and heartfelt. You could tell that it was Rebecca Quin/Becky Lynch) writing this and not a ghost writer. Quin's voice came through every page of this book perfectly. Content: 8.5 - I loved everything here. I just wanted more. Learning that she was afraid of heights (despite being a flight attendant!) - I wanted to know it felt being the TLC match. As a newer fan, (within the last 2 years or so), I wanted to see more of recent Becky. This book stops before I started watching Wrestling again. What was her wedding with Colby Lopez/Seth Rollins like? What is it like "at home" - the little time that they do get to spend at home. Roux! I want more Roux! But honestly, everything that was in there - I loved. Audiobook narration: 10 -Wow! I did an immersion read with this and yes! Best choice (thank you, John!). Listening to the audiobook was just like listening to a Becky Lynch promo. She read with confidence, emotion and passion and at a good pace. Enjoyment: 9.5 - I thoroughly enjoyed Becky Lynch: The Man - Not Your Average Average Man. I am so glad that I got to read this. (Thank you again, John for preordering this book for me.) Total: 37/4 = 9.25 = 5/5 stars! ... show more

  • Interesting insight
Interesting look into the life of WWE superstar Becky Lynch and her rise to the top. The book is good, especially if you're a fan of Becky. But some of it reads awkwardly. I appreciate that Becky wanted to write it herself but the editor needed to do a better job of cleaning up sentence structure and punctuation. She also comes off a little egotistical in some instances while in others she's extremely self conscious. I enjoyed it but there are some flaws. ... show more

A fantastic and inspiring read. Becky’s story is truly a remarkable one borne of sacrifice, grit and the incredible blessing of being able to live her dream boldly and fearlessly.

  • Hilarious, raw, honest and full of grit!
I wasn’t a Pro Wrestling fan until I learned about Becky Lynch. Suppose I was judging it as silly and over the top without ever giving it a chance by educating myself. This book isn’t just for wrestling fans at all. This is a story about overcoming all odds with relentless perseverance. It’s a coming of age story about a young woman facing down her insecurities and pushing forward despite self-doubt. I highly recommend it to everyone. Several moments had me stopping and laughing hysterically, re-reading that part, and laughing some more. This woman can write and it’s a total page turner. Becky is a woman who uplifts other women. She’s an exemplary role model. My 15 year old daughter, who doesn’t like to read much, read it in a day and a half and LOVED it! There is some coarse language and some mild sexual content. If someone wants to read this book, they can handle all of that. I hope she writes another book! ... show more
