Well after replacing the battery and trying 3 days in a row maybe 6 times a day, it would not update. I thought I would wait to return and give the tech support a chance to make it work. Amazingly while I was on hold the device updated. It now works fine and I will probably keep it. I raised it from 1 star to 3 stars because it is working now. If you purchase make sure firmware is at least 2.9.6. The battery is still an issue. This should have never been sold until the thread update is installed! original message:Do not buy this cheap piece of junk. First of all, it is just a cheap device. It had a 70% battery that came with it. I set it up with all the device buttons in use. The buttons work about 25% of the time and less! It is held by a magnet that is very poor. Called the customer no service and they are not open during the home hours that we keep. I guess that I expected for the price that it would work fine. It is just a switch and that is the most basic thing that home kit uses and they can't get that to work. Yes, I am angry, as I get tired of this kind of junk that is sold. I will return it after spending a few hours trying to get it to work. DO NOT BUY THIS! ... show more

  • Works Perfectly
Nine separate functions in one device for this price is a great value. I have four of these and, although there is a period right after adding them to Home when their connectivity is hit or miss, that only lasts a few hours at most. After that, they’re rock solid. I have them all updated to the latest firmware. That might account for why some people have trouble with them but I don’t. The form factor is great. I love being able to put them behind standard wall plates. The only problem I’ve had, like others have, is that the magnet is a little weak and just pushing a button too hard can knock the switch off its wall mount. Since I don’t plan on using these anywhere except on my walls, I may just figure out a way to more permanently attach them to their bases. I haven’t had a problem with battery life except that one shipped with a dud battery. I put a fresh battery in it and it’s been going strong for weeks. I’ve had one for several months and haven’t had to change the battery. I’m wondering if other reviewers see the fluctuations in the battery percentage reported in the Home app and take that as an absolute indication of how much battery is being consumed. I don’t think those numbers can be reliable given that they’re probably just an estimate based on voltage drop compared to a new battery, not a true measurement of a battery’s remaining charge. I really enjoy using NFC to add devices. It’s a small touch, but it adds a lot of polish to this product. Another similar area of polish is that firmware updates are delivered automatically within the Apple Home app. I love not having to check a manufacturer’s app for firmware updates. In fact, Wemo doesn’t even offer an app that can interact with this device, which is how I think most HomeKit products should be. Lastly, a general comment about Thread: Thread has produced a radical transformation in the reliability of my smart home network. I have Thread devices from four manufacturers and there is some variation in how they implement the standard, but what they all have in common is nearly perfectly reliable communication everywhere in my house without needing to connect devices directly to my router (via WiFi). I’ve decided to ditch as many of my WiFi HomeKit devices as I can over the next couple of years in favor of Thread devices. It’s nice to take the strain of dozens of devices off of my home network. The Wemo Stage displays correctly in the Eve app’s Thread network view as a button/switch along with its HomeKit name, etc. That’s not the case for all of my Thread devices, as some of them (e.g. Onvis Smart Outlets) just show up as nameless endpoint/router nodes. In short, Wemo Stage is the most polished HomeKit product I own. It starts with a generous nine functions of its three buttons with rock solid reliability and then goes the extra mile with features like NFC setup and firmware updates through the Home app. Belkin is raising the bar for HomeKit devices with those tighter integrations with the Home app. The only thing it may be missing is Matter support, but since my home is all Apple devices, I wouldn’t want Matter at the cost of any of the existing features. ... show more

  • Unreliable. Wemo does it again.
The device was promising. But just line my Wemo plugs and switches, it proved to be unreliable. After two months the lithium cell battery died, which is a shame because I barely used the device. More importantly, I bought one and it it did t work at all. So I bought a second and set it up. Seemed fine. But a couple months in, even after changing the batteries, it won’t turn on or off my  Home devices with any reliability. I can’t tell if I’ve tapped it hard enough or two hard, which would trigger the “long press” feature. The lights eventually turn in in most cases, and it’s perhaps fine for a smarthome enthusiast to try out, don’t expect the regular people in your life to be happy when they’re frustrated with it. That’s a shame because it installs so cleanly on the wall. Again— great promise. Very poor execution. I think I’m gonna have to go with something as rudimentary as a legacy Amazon to turn on the devices this thing was purchased to work with. What a disaster. ... show more
