Description

Weller transforms hand soldering The art of hand soldering has been around for a very, very long time, thousands of years in fact. But it was only until 1941 that a transformer based instant heating soldering method was developed by an impatient American radio repairman who was tired of sitting around waiting for his soldering gun to heat up. Carl E. Weller had to wait until after WWII ended in 1945 to get his Weller Manufacturing Company going. In 1960, the Weller Manufacturing Co. in the US patented the “Magnastat” soldering iron which used a magnetic component to regulate the temperature at the iron’s tip. In an expansion overseas beginning in 1959, the Weller ElektroWerkzeuge GmbH plant in Besigheim, Germany, along with new plants in other countries, was organized to manufacture temperature controlled irons and soldering guns for primarily industrial markets throughout Europe and the Near East. Keeping pace with the increasing complexity of our customers’ needs, Weller Germany became the market leader for developing and manufacturing hand soldering products worldwide. Our products were proudly emblazoned with “Made in Germany”, signifying innovation and reliability. From the Manufacturer The Weller PyropenWSTA6 is a self-igniting cordless butane soldering iron and hot air tool. This unit is ideal for field service jobs, and not only can be used as a soldering iron, but a heat shrinking tool as well. Does not require a cord, batteries, or a charge. It comes with a self- ignition finger switch, and temperature control that ranges from 392 Degree F to 932 Degree F. The tank can hold enough butane for one hour of operation - butane is sold separately. Made in Malaysia.

  • works very well
Brand new! This is the slightly older version of the Weller Pyropen. The new version costs over twice as much. Caution: At all costs, please keep this butane torch away from little kids.

  • First Light Took a While
Grabbed some Bernzomatic Butane for it at Home Depot for about $5. Fired right up, and burned it for about 5 seconds and shut it back off. Then... It wouldn't light. After 60 or 70 strikes, it lit, and I used it for about 10 or 15 minutes. After that, it lights reliably every time! I think you need to light it and use it for a few minutes to "burn it in" but I'm not sure. Get it, fill it, light it, and use it for a few minutes before shutting it back off. Maybe that will work better for you. Love this iron, best iron I've ever used! ... show more

  • Great in theory, poor in long-term quality
This might be good for a few time use in a SHTF scenario, but not for regular daily use. The size is great. The appearance and feel are good too. Straight out of the package it seems pretty decent. That's said I couldn't recommend this except rare scenarios. I've purchased multiple of these and they just don't hold up. This has moving parts and poor quality seals that require maintenance that most people will not have the parts or patience to service. The temp. control is very limited and the gas-flow mechanism is archaic. Get a quality solder iron and backup battery with inverter if you need something reliable for long-term portable use. ... show more

  • Weller PyroPen
First of all Amazon got my order to me just like they said. Now on to the PyroPen. I've always had a butane soldering iron amongst my tools and for good reason. Nothing could be handier. No extension cords to drag around for a quick solder job. And the Weller did not disappoint me. Good tip. Decent control over the temp although I'd prefer an idling setting that kept the iron on but extremely low. The unit did heat up quickly and worked well. Thanks Amazon and Weller. ... show more

  • The best Cordless Soldering Iron you can buy for your Buck!
This is my 3rd pen in 10 years. 1st one lasted 6 years and dropped it off a ladder and it broke. Second one was stolen, so here is my third. It does everything I need it too and more. Gets hot enough to solder grounds to Sheilded Cat6 connectors. I love that it comes with a heat tip for shrink!

  • Does not ignite
I had a portable torch i was using for heat shrink tubing. Then the ignitor on that died and had to use a lighter to light the torch. That got annoying, so i figured i would buy a portable soldering iron to use for soldering and heat shrink. Unfortunately, i have never been able to get this thing to ignite itself. I have to use a lighter to start my torch, then use my torch to start my soldering iron. Ridiculous. ... show more

  • Worth the price
Works great in the field. I've owned several over the years.

  • Great for soldering but...
Solder Iron works great but the blower doesn't stay lit and there's no way to adjust the air to fuel ratio.
