  • Better than expected.
Style: SP80NUS
I'm not great at soldering first off but I can get it done. This iron holds heat very well, pulls 80-85 watts on startup. And heats up quickly considering the size of tip I use for 1/0 OFC wire. I will happily recommend this product. Honestly surprised it didn't cost more!

  • Better than expected
Style: SP80NUS
Based on price and wattage I figured it would take long to heat work, but was happily surprised. LED lights are nice, feels good in your hands and heats up work quickly. Very happy with purchase and price.

  • Works with small branding iron.
Style: SP80NUS
I bought this in hopes to use as a branding iron not knowing how I'd attach the brand or even if it would get hot enough. Turns out the tip is copper and I was able to grind it down and tap it to fit the brand. It gets plenty hot and works great.

  • Meh
Style: SP80NUS
Ordered a high wattage version of the same low priced soldering irons I have been using for years because I was soldiering to thick copper heatsinks and needed some serious heat to make a solder joint quickly enough to not melt the components. It does work. It does exactly what it is supposed to do, get hot, stay hot. I did take one star off because it is just so unwieldy. The tips are the size of the fat pencils they give you in kindergarten. After this I ordered a soldering station capable of supplying this kind of heat when I need it through a tip small enough I can put it where I want it. If you're going to buy this and then buy a smaller iron for smaller jobs you're already half way to the price of a good soldering station, save money and frustration over the long haul and invest in one. ... show more

  • 3 years old and only used a handful of times and died
Style: SP80NUS
Bought this as a replacement for my Ungar that died finally after 35yrs of hard use. Because Weller bought out Ungar and basically shut down the line (think, we can’t have a smaller company beat us at own game, so we’ll buy them out and shut them down, problem solved) In past Weller used to be good iron, today… not so much. Yes, its 3 yrs old, but it was used under 6 times during that time as the tip was too big for most soldering jobs I had needed it for. The LEDs still work, but no heat. Even after letting it sit powered for 15 min. ... show more

  • NOT FOR AVERAGE USER- too much power
Style: SP80NUS
I thought what I wanted was a powerful little soldering iron. This is not it. This has almost enough power to be used in lead soldering for stained glass windows. This has enough power to boil off all rosin, flux, or other flow helper long before you get the solder connection made. It generally blackened all my wires before I get the connection made, and then I have to clean them or cut the ends and start over. I sent this back. If you are using this in everyday average use for small electronics, custom builds, anything smaller than 10 gauge wire (remember most electronics use 12 to 20), this will have too much power for you. Highly recommend the 40 watt version of this iron from the same company instead, which works as intended and works perfectly every time. ... show more
