  • Decent lil charger for the price point, hope it lasts
I was in the market for an inexpensive trickle/smart/maintainer charger to experiment with - basically to maintain a 12v battery (570 CCA or about +/- 41 Ah capacity), that I removed from a vehicle, while said battery is connected to a 12V battery pulse desulfator device. Frankly, this fit the bill at this price point of $7 + $2 s/h = $9? Can't possible go wrong me thinks! Anyway, I just got this in my hands just a little over a week – 10 days ago. It was shipped well wrapped, rolled inside a foam sheet inside a taped plastic bag inside a bubble envelope and the entire thing weighed less than 1lb sealed. The device itself is very lightweight, made of light plastic and has very thin lead wires for the copper-ish colored alligator clips - about the same quality wires and clips as on my Cen-Tech 500mAh float charger. The device body case doesn’t feel super sturdy, nor flimsy, but that was expected at this price point. It’s about the same quality of casing as on my way more expensive late model BTJr 750mAh float charger, but not as ruggedly built as my NOCO Genius 1. Upon turning the device over to see the backside, I noticed that it didn’t say that the output was the stated 1.30A as stated on the Amazon page, but rather the sticker on the device itself, as you can see in the picture, clearly states it is rated at 1.0A. Is it a typo on the web page, or on the sticker? Who knows? Either way, that needs to be corrected. I dinged a star for detail that alone. I connected the charger to the battery as well as the desulfator and let it run for a few days and, although it took a while, the LED turned green between the 2nd and 3rd day connected, so the device is working as it should. Whenever the LED goes back to red, it takes a while for it to return to green, but that is probably due to the battery connected to the device, as it is much higher rated in amp hours than the instructions that came with it, or even the product description. Also, FYI, the pulse desulfator device has a constant parasitic draw on the battery too. Operation-wise, as you can see in the pic, it is currently charging at around 14.32V according to my “el cheapo” multimeter. However, I have clocked it charging at anywhere from around 12.76V-12.89V when the LED is green (probably just the battery’s resting/surface charge). When the LED is red, operating range has been anywhere from 13.78V to 14.43V normally, but as high as around 14.65V when first connecting it to a battery and then subsequently dropping. So it seems that as a battery nears full charge, the device seems to lower charging voltage, just as do other smart trickle/float chargers I own (Cen-Tech 500mAh, BTJr 750mAH, Noco Genius 1A and C-Tek 4.3A chargers for now). I just hope this WElinks charger lasts as long as those have, and should it not, I will update my review. Also, FYI, most car alternators, ideally, run/charge between 13.7V-14.7V. Operating temperature-wise, the device gets just slightly lukewarm and has never gotten hot. I haven't seen any of the safety features in action yet, and I hope I don't have to. My overall impression is that the device works as stated (barring the 1.0A vs. 1.3A misnomer I stated above), as it has a great price point compared to other very similar, if not identical, super economical 1.0A chargers, and unless you get a complete dud, for the money you really can’t go wrong if you’re in the market for an inexpensively-priced charger that seems to do what it claims to do. • Great little charger/maintainer
I've had one of these on my mower for about a month and it works very well. Definitely puts out the right voltage to keep a 12V lead acid battery from self-draining. I bought two more for my other tractors.
