  • Best! for "One Eye Jim"
I am 91 yrs old and was searching for a drill (electric or manual) in my basement workshop. Not finding one, I decided to check Amazon and found a variety of manual drills that would do the simple job I am finishing. I had made a 6" x 8" - 3/4" plywood back desk extension for the magnifying lamp on my desk. After checking many Amazon drills and their reviews, decided that this WEICHUAN drill is the best. The few negative reviews said there is no way to connect the Chuck Key to the drill so they can be sure to find it. The answer is simple -- Keep the drill & chuck key back In the fine box the drill came in ! ( 60 years ago when I started at Caterpillar Engineering, my first boss taught us the old "KISS" Treatment - "Keep It Simple Stupid!" It was the best ever advice and I have applied It to many situations over the years, and it always works! ) ... show more

  • Works fine
This drill works fine for plastic, small wood projects and tight spaces . I only wish I could store it in the original box without removing the chuck.

  • Surprised
So there's no place to store the chuck key. Ok. It will drill holes. You might have to start off with a smaller bit. Great for small jobs. How the heck did tradesmen use these thing back in ye oldin days. I recommend it if you want to go off grid or cant aford a corded drill. Would give 5 stars if it had a chuck key holder of some type. It is 2022. Right? ... show more

  • Quality tool; recommended for drilling 3/8" holes in drywall for Mollys
1. Chuck-installation instructions are not included with the drill or the chuck. Install the chuck according to the diagrammed instructions on the Amazon product page. When mounting the chuck to the handle, hand tighten it thoroughly (if you can, all the way down to the bottom of the metal thread on the handle). Then, open the jaws and install the screw. 2. On my drill, the front gear (nearest the chuck) hung up slightly as it meshed with the orange handle gear. It worked, but not smoothly. It wouldn't have affected use of the tool, but I fixed it by pressing the gears together and forcefully moving the gears back and forth over that spot several times. That resulted in smooth operation. Apparently, the orange coating on the handle gear was slightly too thick at one point and it required some use to wear it down. 3. I needed to drill 3/8" holes in drywall for 6S Molly fasteners (the 3/8" drill size is specified by the manufacturer). I have a power drill which would accept a 3/8" bit, but I prefer a hand drill for drywall -- it produces a cleaner hole, more suitable for Molly installation. This hand drill worked perfectly. I am pleased with it's quality and value. ... show more

  • OK, But Not Like the Old American-Made Ones
WEICHUAN Hand Drill 3/8-Inch Capacity-Powerful and Speedy, Manual 3/8 inch Mini Hand Drill with Finely Cast Steel Double Pinions Design, 3 Jaw Chucks and Grip Handle It is OK. I lost my old mechanical drill (along with our family home) in Hurricane Katrina. It was a drill that my father gave me that was probably from the 1950's. The old drill seemed much more substantial and had a second handle that was perpendicular to the to the main shaft of the drill that was useful for adding extra weight pressure while drilling. The old drill was much better drilling holes and felt much more stable. It was easy to drill large holes without bogging down like this new one does. Some advice if you buy one, save a few bucks and buy the 1/4 inch capacity version because this drill does not work well with the larger bits, but does work OK with small diameter bits. It is not a bad thing to have around for drilling small, narrow holes, but frankly that is about it. One thing nice is the hollow handle that give you a place to conveniently store a few bits. BTW, assembly is easy, but my drill came with no instructions. Remember, instructions are shown on the Amazon website, although likely written by someone in China who spoke little English. I'm keeping mine rather than returning it, so that says something. ... show more

  • It gets the job done
While drilling it can bind but it's not the fault of the tool. Use sheet metal drillbits, not wood and it will bind less. The binding is primarily from the drill bit biting into the wood. The less the bit bites the smoother the operation of the drilling process. Putting some petroleum jelly into the 2 gears on the rod portion of the tool will help as those gears can slightly bind against the housing under pressure. For a manual drilling tool, I like it. ... show more
