Excellent, moderately priced reel from a great company

I bought this Liquid 5+ to pair with a moderately-priced new 6wt rod that I don't expect to use very often. Used it this week and it worked very well. Drag is smooth, it holds 90 ft of 6wt line plus 100ft or so of backing. The best thing to know, though, is that Lamson provides sterling customer serv
ice. When I 1st loaded line on to the reel, the drag seemed to be engaged on the retrieve as well as the run out. I called the customer service number and it was answered by a real person on the 2nd ring. I described the problem, he said "it sounds like something's wrong with it" and told me to send it to him. No annoying questions about how I might have messed it up and he waived the repair fee without my asking for it. I sent it in and went fishing. When I got back a few days later, the reel was in my mailbox, all fixed and ready to go. It just doesn't get any better than that. I will look at Lamson first before buying another reel (of which I have too many already).

I own several of these reels. I believe they are the best value of all fly reels. The drag system is the same as on Lamson reels costing hundreds of dollars more. The reels are die cast and not machined from aluminum bar stock. This is not an important difference for anglers using the 5 weight line f
or which this reel was designed. The drag is smooth and will not jam under normal operating conditions. Save by buying this reel and spend the savings on a better rod or a better fly line

I like the weight (not a plastic piece of junk), drag is smoth, color is subtle and price is right. Better look and feel than Orvis or Bass Pro similar costing reels. I looked at them all.

Bought this for a trip to the Bahamas. By the time I loaded it with fly line and backing had over 300 dollars invested in it. Have not used it yet but hope it was worth it. Seems pricy for a mass produced item. We’ll see!

I built my first fly rod In February of 2021 and wanted a good reel without spending a fortune. I also wanted a made in USA reel. At 86$ it certainly was affordable and the drag and the machining is done in the USA. That works for me. The reel is gorgeous in person and has a very easy start up drag.
Just silky smooth. The clicker is pretty loud too which I personally like. The rod I built is an angler workshop’s made in USA 2 piece 9’ 4wt and this reel works perfectly with it. I can’t get over the price increase since then (on EVERYTHING!) glad I grabbed it then.

Smoothe drag, great value,

Got the 5 weight in the Smoke (i.e.-gray) color. Looks great, is lightweight, and performs great so far. The reel is very light for its size, very solid and strong feeling, and the drag is very smooth with no startup friction that I can detect. There is no slop, wiggle, or run out anywhere on the reel. lest reel I have ever seen. I bought mine for a 7 wt line. It has quite a bit of excess capacity even for a bass taper 7 wt. But it is not heavy. No ball bearings. That is probably fine for a fly reel. With the high retrieve rate you do not wind it a lot. Now I need 6 months fishing to check it out. I am a long time fly fisher and I have a whole bunch of both expensive and inexpensive reels under my belt and I like this one.

Great reel for the money, US parts (some), and assembled in US.

r the brands, and while this is not 100% it is substantially. Perhaps my next will be 100%. Back to the reel. Is it light, smooth, attractive and best of all great at catching fish (see my pic). This fish is from the Current River, MO. I would get another in a heartbeat. For $100 or so I paid I am very happy.

This is a great reel. Put it on the bamboo rod and works in frigid cold weather and didn’t have any issues. Love the looks and the action. I got the matte style so as to limit sun reflection that might scare fish off.. has a high quality feel. Lightweight also. Drag is good. What a good cost for this

This reel has to be Best or near best for the money

Good sealed drag for saltwater applications - have caught lots of big bones - small tuna - dorado - roosters and some tough jacks. Get two or three and a new rod several spools of good tropical fly line - new pair of polarized - and you’ll still have money left over vs going very high end on one reel

Great reel. Awesome value.

I needed a new reel to pair with my TFO 5wt and the Lamson Liquid fit the bill. Lightweight, great drag, easy to adjust and really nice looking. Only regret is that I wish I would have spent the extra money and gotten the package with the extra spool.
