  • Time will tell if it works
I already have a whole house filters system installed that I created using 4.5x20" filters. I installed this after the last filter. I currently don't notice any difference in the water but that is to be expected as it doesn't soften the water. Details on how this actually works is unavailable but I assume it is some type of ionization. The effect is similar to other kits that wrap some wires around the pipe and promise to do the same thing. I'm not clear on how either work but I trust this filter is more likely to accomplish it. ... show more

  • Pretty simple install
This was a pretty simple install. I did have to cut in a bypass and add some lateral lines to add this descaler. I added some extra height for future expansion if desired. I didn't use any of the original pipe valves or fittings. They seemed more like pool accessories than for home fittings. The tank itself seemed to be of nice quality, even after flushing the tank - it was still pretty light. With using some Teflon tape, there was zero leaking from the fittings. So far it's hard to tell how the filter is functioning, but I will monitor over time to look for mineral buildup. So far it seems like a good cost effective alternative to a salt based softener. And so far, the performance has been good enough. I have not seen much of a drop in water pressure. ... show more

  • not a 'softener'
If you have ever had or used a salt softener, you will know that slippery, slick feeling when showering or washing dishes....like you can't wash the soap off. You don't get that with this filter. Personally, I happen to like that slippery, slick feeling and it is missing here. However, many people absolutely hate that feeling. I do like the size and the fact that it will work (on city water) if the power is out. To prolong the life of appliances is the biggest benefit along with easier cleaning of showers/tubs/toilets. This does not require any maintenance or a drain line like a salt softener does. This is just 6 years of easy. Install your sediment and whole house charcoal filter before this. This also arrives with a plastic shut off valve. I didn't need it for my home as I already have one installed, but I will keep it just in case. It is always a good idea to shut water off to the home if you are going away, even if only for a few days. This filter is the same exact size as their whole house charcoal filter. WaterBoss is owned by AO Smith and Aquasana so if you are questioning any support you may need or the quality of this filter, this is an American company that is easily accessible with a toll-free number and a 6 year warranty. For 6 years of conditioned water, this is an excellent value at $50 a YEAR based on the current purchase price of $300. ... show more

  • Lousy shipping packaging, no instructions, crappy parts
The manufacturers box had a WaterBoss label slapped on it. Parts were loose in the box. There were NO instructions in the box. The parts supplied are of poor quality plastic. The manufacturer's box was thrown inside a huge box, not marked "this end up" and no packing inside. Amazon fail. I downloaded an instruction PDF from Aquasana, it is bare bones and non-specific. The supplied shut off valve is huge and cheap. It looks as though it's meant to be glued inline. I threw it in a drawer and ordered a Sharkbite shut off. In fact, I'll probably pitch the fittings supplied and go with better quality. Also, a warning label on the tank shows 100 psi max. Nothing on the ad shows this pressure rating. I haven't even started to flush it yet, and I'm already skeptical. ... show more

  • Smaller than expected.
This is pretty small (physical size). Not sure how it equates to performance yet. I hooked it up yesterday. I didn’t notice any immediate remarkable difference in my water. Not sure if I should have or not. I don’t know if I should expect it to be like a softener or not but it wasn’t. If my understanding is correct, this doesn’t really remove the minerals but really just breaks them up so they dont accumulate on your fixtures. If that’s the case, that’s why o don’t really notice a difference and it will take months to see if it does anything. If you have bad water, it can’t hurt but I think it could take months to know the real effect on how this performs. But as far as the equipment goes, it’s small, compact and was easy to hookup. Well made and sturdy. Came with everything you should need if you’re gluing into pvc pipe. If you have any other kind of pipe ( copper or pex) you’re going to need to buy some fittings. Comes with 3/4” glue in for pvc and 3/4” thread options. ... show more

  • No salt is a plus.
So the unit comes with various fittings needed to connect to 3/4" PVC coming into your residence. If you have a different type or size you'll need to adapt to thread into 3/4 FNPT threads in the unit itself or to PVC to use the ball valve union. There isn't anything special about the build material and I'm hoping it lives up to its 600k gallon rating. ... show more

  • It Takes Some Time
This is something that will take a while to see the full benefits of. I think it is probably best for single residence homes. We have city water and the buildup that accumulates over time is quite serious. Hopefully this will have a positive effect at reducing that buildup over time. I like that it is good for 6 years or 600,000 gallons. That means that you are really only paying about 50 a year, which is very affordable. ... show more

  • An almost perfect descaler system
Fairly easy to install and clears up water after awhile. Definitely useful in systems where salt build-up is an issue.
