    • Best water softener EVER!
Here in Central Florida the water is very hard. In the last 20 years I've had two water softeners. Neither were effective in treating the water. I found out about Water Boss from a friend. I bought the largest size. Within 24 hours water was very soft. No odor, lathering soap, and no more itchy skin. I highly recommend this water filter! Installation is generally strait forward. However, for unknown reasons the connections you need for the "water in" to the water softener, and the "water out" of the water softener are not included and are not offered. You cannot just connect with just any connector or you will break it or it will forever leak. Fear not! Here's what you do. You will not find the fittings at big box stores or local hardware stores. You have to go to a plumbing supply that sells to plumbers. They know EXACTLY what you need. These fittings are very common and used for water softeners everywhere. When you get your water softener take the instruction manual to the plumbing supply and show them the page with the instructions and picture that shows the connections. You need 2 connections, but typically the part they sell will be a short 3/4" pipe with a fitting on each end. You don't need the pipe just the 2 fittings, and it's very inexpensive. Ask the plumbing people to instruct you on installing these fittings. Key words are "do not force them" and "snug is best". Do NOT over tighten. Use no plumbers tape or putty. Done right they work great and do not leak. Note to Water Boss: you should include the fittings. (or you could have a plumber install the unit. But you better show the plumber the instructions because they won't have the fitting with them. The water to your house will be OFF while they go get one. Could take a while!) The settings are simple and straight forward. They include water tests for Hardness and PH. I set it on the highest level - 90 because the water is so hard. You might drain your hot water tank to get all that hard water out, (turn off electric or gas to tank or you'll burn out the heating elements before draining!) OR.. just run some washer loads with hot water, showers etc. Your house pipes have hard water in them until it's flushed out. The instructions show it installed next to your hot water tank. This avoids treating all your water like irrigation systems and outside hose bibs. I installed it for the whole house in an outdoor weather proof enclosure that was built for the previous softeners. (my irrigation system comes directly off the meter so not through the softener). You'll have to decide what's best for you. The softener regenerates every 96 hours automatically. But there is a regeneration button to use if you feel it's needed. I find the controls to be easier and way better than any previous unit. Addition of salt is easy. Put a bag in to start. Keep a couple of bags ready to go. You need a convenient electric plug. You need to install a drain line. I installed a 90% buried plastic tank with a clean out lid. The tank is in the ground, sitting up on some bricks, with drain holes drilled all over the bottom. The tank is half full of medium size stones. The drain hole comes out of my enclosure into the top of the tank. You will need to turn the water off to your house. So locate the main shut off valve BEFORE you start. You have to decide to run the line to a drain, if you have one nearby. Or, drill a hole in an exterior wall and drain out the way I did it or let it just run out on the ground. BUT NOTE: it's salt water discharge. All plants will die that come into contact with the discharge and nothing will grow there. Also, it's a gravity discharge. The discharge has to go downhill to work. Check your drain for blockage regularly. In conclusion this is the best water softener I have ever seen! No more ichy skin. Even my heavy thick coated German Shepherd has stopped itching and his skin irritation is clearing up. Showers are great! Clothes are cleaner and softer. Best price, best unit. If you feel the need just get an experienced plumber to put it in. Show them the instructions first. Also note the top valve has a "bypass setting and an "In Service" setting. Very convenient. However, you will have a 3/4" in pipe and a 3/4" out pipe. Both PVC. Get a flexible short stainless pipe with 3/4" female fittings on each end. Keep it near your softener along with your instructions and your test kit. Just in case, down the road, you have to remove the softener unit for any reason you will use this flexible pipe to connect the in and the out pipes so you'll have water to your house. If you don't You’ll be put of water until you can resolve the issue. Make sure your flexible pipe is long enough to make the connection. Mine is 18 inches - keep it near - just in case. ... show more
