A previous GE Water Softener of this model had failed, and the plastic bypass valve that came with it leaked, so I had to turn off the water to the house until I could disconnect and manually install a bypass. The plumber said those often do leak, and often do not work when you need them to. I got a new water softener from Home Depot, and the instructions describe a three-valve setup, so I built that. These adaptors allowed me to directly connect 1" screw connectors (SharkBite 24-in 3/4-in Push-to-Connect Inlet x 1-in FIP Outlet Corrugated Stainless Steel Water Softener Connector) to the water softener, without having to use the plastic bypass that came with the water softener. I tried so hard to be careful, but I still cross threaded supply lines due to the difficult access to the supply lines. They looked lined up, so I’m going to empty the softener so I can eliminate that problem again when I attach these parts which look exactly like the ones I need.

    • Great water softener bypass valve alternative
The bypass valve on my water softener started leaking and I wanted to replace it. In doing that I ruined the new one by cross threading the metal water fitting on the plastic bypass threads. As I already had bypass valving in my copper lines, I figured these separate fittings could work, and at least if I ruined one at least I would not have to replace both. I did not cross thread either and these worked perfectly. (Of course with these I lost the bypass capability I didn't need anyway.) Also, looking at it now, I probably could have gotten away with simply replacing the O rings on my first, leaky valve, but, if not that, these were a great, lower cost alternative. ... show more

After 10 years of faithful service my Whirlpool WHES33 water softener O ring stared to leak. The description said this would fit my model, and it did, nice tight seal and took minutes to install.
