  • This kit was essential in extending the life of our water softener. Thanks.

  • Exactly what I needed
I have a Whirlpool water softener. They are easily repairable by the customer, with a little guidance from a knowledgeable tech. My water wasn't being softened, so I called Whirlpool. I noticed that there was a lot of water coming out of the drain line of the water softener, so Whirlpool told me I needed this kit, because the huge amount of water indicated leakage. (I also needed a Rotor Position Switch.) When the parts arrived, I installed them - it was very easy to do so - and my problem was solved. That was seven months ago, and the softener has worked perfectly since that time. So not only is this a good review for this kit, but also for Whirlpool, for the excellent and knowledgeable help they give you whenever you call. Whirlpool is not the fanciest softener on the market, but it performs well; and if it breaks, Whirlpool will help you fix it so that you can have a long time of good service from it. The excellent phone support is why I will always buy Whirlpool. ... show more

  • "Standard" flow parts do not fit the GE GSXH40V softener.
I did not receive all the parts and pieces shown in the Amazon description. The attached exploded view is from my GSXH40V manual (which is the same as some Whirlpool models). I purchased the softener at Lowe's. The missing part was the rubber partitioned gasket shown inside the large O-Ring and also part of the "seal kit" item 130 shown in my attached exploded parts view. I reused my old rubber gasket with the new plastic matching gasket (which was included) on top. I have put the softener back in service and the unit seems to work without any leaks. My softener is about 7 years old and this is the first time I have had the rotary valve apart. I would not have been able to pull the aluminum gear (item 136) from the plastic center shaft if I did not have a gear puller left over from the days of working on my cars. The aluminum had severe corrosion from the softener salt and took a lot of scraping and brushing to clean. I bought the standard flow kit first (no dimensions on the description and looked the same as the high flow). The standard flow valve disk is less than three inches in diameter. ... show more

  • Perfect kit to bring water softener back to life
My water softener was leaking small amounts of water from the top, and also was having errors that I was unable to reset. Upon inspection it was wet and scaly at the top of the tank and it seemed clear the seals were leaking. I used this kit along with a new switch and new roller and basically rebuilt the top end. This kit had every seal needed and it was really easy to tell which one went where, and I had it apart and back together in about 20 minutes. It has run now for a couple of weeks with no errors and no leaks. Overall a really good way to extend the life of my softener and I highly recommend this kit to fix any leaks in your water softener. ... show more

  • Faulty seal included in kit caused hours of lost time
The media could not be loaded. Whirlpool support originally helped troubleshoot my softener due to brine tank filling during backwash cycle. Recommended I rebuild the valve and sent me the part number and a link to their preferred supplier. Turn around was weeks so I bought from Amazon (at a $20 premium) to get in 2 days as I didn’t want to be without the softener for weeks. After installing the new kit, my softener began filling the brine tank all the time (even when not in regen). I took the valve apart twice checking everything before contacting whirlpool. Of course, their opinion was that it was the kit I bought from their non preferred vendor (turns out they were right). In an attempt to troubleshoot, I began reinstalling my old parts one seal / part at a time to try to determine what part was bad. If it didn’t fix it I would reinstall the new part and then replace another. After 6 or 7 try’s I found that the rotor seal was the culprit. Put the old rotor seal back in and the valve worked correctly. Now I have a working water softener that’s partially rebuilt but I’m not sure how to get a replacement rotor seal without requesting a replacement and swapping it out / returning. I should be happy it’s fixed but I may be rebuilding in a year when the old rotor seal I reinstalled fails. Probably should have just bought from the recommended whirlpool vendor. ... show more

  • Water softener repair kit
I am very well satisfied with the parts that I ordered. The only problem I had with the first order was I didn't get what was advertised. I think whoever packaged the first order didn't know what they were doing.

  • Saved me about $400.00
A few days ago I noticed a small leak or a seeping of water from the head assembly of my Whirlpool WHES40 water softener and the water was not getting as soft as it used to. So a new 40,000 grain water softener costs about $500.00. This kit costs $90.00 and took less than an hour to install. The softener works likes new. Whats not to like? The instructions that came with the kit were as good as can be expected for written instructions but there are a number of YouTube videos showing how to install this kit. I recommend viewing them too. ... show more
