these are very easy to use and it doesn't take long. i got them to test my water and they showed hardness of 250. after installing/using water softener for a couple weeks, i tested again and got the low (dark green) reading. i have been getting the dark green ever since. i've also used the strips to test friends water who don't have a softener- they give hardness of varying degrees. tested my neighbors water (who has a softener) and got the low (dark green) reading. so, i'd say these are accurate. ... show more

I have hard water and my skin hates it. I use these test strips to monitor the hardness to make sure I'm getting the softening I need from my water conditioner. The test kit is inexpensive, easy to use, and it works. I have to assume it's accurate, as I have no way of checking that.

    • Strips in bottle damaged.

The product arrived intact without any visible issues. You receive a tube of 50 strips, and two sealed refill packages of 50 strips each. Upon opening the bottle, I found that all the strips in the bottle have a dark edge on the developing pad, at the edge of the strip closest to the lid. Due to testing the operation of my newly installed water softener, I couldn't rely on the strips in the bottle, since low/no hardness develops to a shade of green, and the strips in the bottle already turned green on the one edge. I opened one of the refill packs and found no issues with them. I did later test a non-softened water source with the strips from the bottle and compared to a refill strip and found that they do seem to read accurately still, so long as the strip is read opposite of the damaged edge. Since it seems that the tube is prone to moisture intrusion, I would recommend storing the strips in a different container that is known to be air-tight, and with a desiccant in the container. ... show more

The reason I gave it a 3 stars is because they came in damaged. The one package looked cut on the bottom and the test 50 pack of test trips were all over the bag it was delivered in. I don't even know if they worked or not.

I ordered this test kit to check my water softener. I first tested a faucet that should have soft water, and then I tested a faucet that I knew was always hard water. As you can see the two strips show exactly the soft test strip and the hard test strip. This is a quality and a fast working test. I really like that the strips are in sealed packs, and stay fresh until you open them.(about 50 test strips at a time) supplied is a small catch tube for water to be tested, dunk test strip into water in the test tube for two seconds, and instant results as shown in picture. There is also a expiration date on the test kit so you know it is fresh. With 150 test strips I can make a lot of test for hard water, and I will always know that my water softener is working or not. This kit only test's for water hardness only, and that is exactly what I wanted. Highly recommend this test kit. Works accurately, and quickly. ... show more

I tested my known hard well water from the bathroom, kitchen sink, rain water, water from the creek in my backyard, and water from Lake Erie and the results were all the same (I used a ton of strips from the other test packets in this kit). All were showing 0ppm. No color change. What a waste of money this was. Very angry. I needed to know the results fast for my new water softener to program my valve correctly and now I'm just going to have to send it to a lab which will take a ton of time. Now I'll have to guess the hardness for now and either be using too little salt or too much salt. Total garbage. ... show more
