Description

Every day, we use plastic products. And where do these items go when we are done with them? When artist Angela Haseltine Pozzi found plastic trash polluting the beach near her home, she took action. She formed an organization called Washed Ashore and started gathering trash from beaches and using it to create incredible sculptures of wildlife. These sculptures travel the country to teach people about the importance of these animals―and the problems caused by plastic pollution.Author and photographer Kelly Crull highlights fourteen spectacular sculptures, along with hints to find common objects hidden among the debris. There’s information about each ocean animal as well as tips for how you can reduce your plastic use, hold a beach cleanup and make your own plastic art. Be inspired to get creative in protecting the world’s oceans! Read more

  • How creative can anyone get?
This is a marvelous book for both adults and children. I would love to see the sculptures in real life and I understand they are on tour to libraries etc. The state of our oceans is tragic and heartbreaking. Walking on the beach, I have picked up multiple bags of plastic trash, fishing line and hooks, shoes, toys, work gloves, and once a 50gallon container of machine oil that had washed up on the surf. These artists are turning ugly into beautiful as they bring the problem to our attention and educate our future leaders. Beautiful photography and text as well. ENJOY! Be inspired and maybe even become part of the solution! ... show more

  • A Beautiful Book
This book was purchased with a LSTA grant provided by California State Library through the ZIP Book program. It is perfect for our library, as we are a small coastal town in Northern California and we see plenty of plastic trash wash up on our shores. It is good for both children and adults, and encourages people to create something wonderful out of something terrible: trash that lives in our oceans. It educates people on the tragedy of marine life mistaking our trash for food, and teaches us of the far-reaching consequences of the way we deal with garbage that never, ever disappears. ... show more

  • This is a wonderful book about a wonderful project in Bandon, Oregon
This book is a great reminder of the mess we have created by trashing our earth and oceans. It is the story about one person who decided to use trash that washes onshore to make striking pieces of art. I feel extremely lucky that I can (and have) visit the Washed Ashore Project in Bandon, Oregon and urge everyone to purchase this book to support what they do. ... show more

  • What a way to use waste from the beach and oceans!
This book is a wonderful teachable book. Students can learn so much about what not to do on a beach or ocean with their waste (plastic) but they can also learn how to use what they collect into something beautiful. The illustrations/photography that shows art from trash is amazing. Every teacher/family/library/school needs this book! ... show more
