  • Good Books for the Beginner
I liked that there are so many of these. That's gives a nice variety. I also thought the material was appropriate for my three and five year old. The repetitive phrasing should help with learning how to read.

  • Excellent books for beginning readers!
I ordered all 3 sets of these books for my Kindergartner. He already recognizes a bunch of sight words and I wanted to get a great collection of books that would give him lots of practice and lots of success! I taught reading enrichment classes to early readers for ~9 years, so I knew what I was looking for; these are perfect for getting a youngster started! Another reviewer complained that the sets did not differ in difficulty from A to B to C, but I have to disagree. In my picture, a book from set A is at the top, set B in the middle, and set C at the bottom. All three are alike in their simple sentence structure, but there are key differences. Set A books use a very short sentence, usually with only one word changing per page. This lets the child read independently, recognizing the pattern and using visual clues to figure out unknown words, thereby experiencing a lot of success and feeling pride in their reading skills. Set B uses slightly longer sentences or even two sentences per page, and the words that change frequently have more syllables. The pictures still help with figuring it out, though, so your child can move through the text comfortably, learning to not be intimidated by long words (very important!). Set C books seem to focus on words that have challenging phonics elements (like "grew" -- not an easy word to sound out until you've learned that digraph, which usually happens sometime in mid 1st grade) or longer and more diverse sentences with multi-syllabic words. Don't get me wrong; these books are little half steps in the reading process and are all early-mid Kindergarten level, but in setting up your child for success -- giving them confidence and the willingness to try -- these early experiences are crucial! I am very pleased with the purchase and am excited for my kid to try them. UPDATE 10/1/21 -- I will modify my above statement for at least one of the books. In the A set, there is a book called "Almost Spring" that I feel belongs in set B or possibly even set C. It uses the present participle (-ing) on almost every page, and while a child at this level may know or be able to figure out the root word (for instance, "melt" or "peep"), they are very likely to be thrown by "melting" and "peeping." Just remember to give your child lots of support and encouragement when they read, and if they seem to be struggling, just tell them the word and let them move on. :) P.S. Other people reported getting some duplicates in their boxes; I did not. Seems to be random. Perhaps if you get a duplicate the seller could send you the right one. Customer image ... show more

  • Great!!!!
These little readers are perfect for what I was looking for. My girl is in Kindergarten and needing extra practice on reading at home. We have A lot of other books, but these are styled to where she is able to read them and they are like the ones they are reading in class.

  • Great Guided Reading Books for Beginner Readers--- Preschool-1st Grade
I purchased this set of books to help my kiddos who are learning how to read. The books are enjoyable enough to keep their attention and I ask them questions according to the parent guide that was included-it makes learning fun for them. We read the same book each night for a week and then we rotate through the deck of books.....the repetition of reading these books allows for them to remember their sight words. The only issue that I have with the set is, the books do not appear to be ordered by level of difficulty. I suggest the seller to include a list of the books according to the range of difficulty- this will help parents with identifying their child's reading level. ... show more

  • Great starter books
A good mix of very easy words ("hop" and "red") and more challenging words ("around" and "school") to build confidence for first-time readers while giving them new things to learn. The instruction pamphlet insert included in the box has good tips for parents using the book set as reading aids. There are enough books in the collection that, if you cycle through them over long intervals, you can make sure your child is learning actual reading and not rote memorization. I suggest reading aloud to the child a few times before having them read it themselves if they are beginners. Then you let the kiddos try on their own. If you have a kid who likes to guess based on the picture, I suggest covering the pictures with a piece of paper and having them attempt reading it, then uncovering it after so they can enjoy it. I read each book twice per sitting to help solidify the learned words. If you keep it fun, supportive and ALWAYS positive, these books are incredibly effective for helping little children gain confidence in reading. Patience and reinforcing effort and NEVER focusing on errors will earn you an early book-loving child! My four-year-old can read some of them entirely on her own now. She's just a normal kid (to me she is amazing, of course, but all parents think that), but the method works! 'Class Pets' is a great one to start with for very young ones. ... show more

  • Helping him
My grandson is learning to read so I sent these to them. My older grandchildren had such books when they were in Kindergarten. He has enjoyed them bec quick reads, he use to reject books. A friend in 1st grade has been bossy but she has him calling out the words.
