I placed my two shelves on sections of wall that didn’t have 16” stud spacing. I got one screw in a stud, and then I used the included drywall anchors and screws to secure the other 3 holes. If you have 2 studs, you can skip the additional 2 holes. This kit comes with the cutest little level that was way more useful than I would have thought! I hung these shelves by myself, and leveling them with the included ‘baby’ level was a breeze. If I load the shelves up with my bigger books, I’d surpass the weight limit. So instead I’ve filled them about halfway with books (and intend to add a few more), and will also use some shelf space for a couple lightweight potted plants. ... show more

These shelves are VERY well made, I was impressed, they exceeded my expectations. I thought they were going to be light, thin, and flimsy, but they are far from it, these things will definitely out live a newborn baby. Well worth the money. I also really like the fact that this company actually thought about the installation in their design. The mounting holes on the sides are 16" apart so you can actually screw BOTH sides directly into the wall studs rather than using those cheap plastic anchors that never hold up. As silly as that sounds, there's hardly any shelves out there that has the spacing right for mounting into wall studs. The shelves do come with those wall anchors so you can mount them where ever you want on your wall, but I've always had better luck mounting things in wall studs. The option is up to you. As far as "how much will it hold??" Again, that really depends on how you mount it. If you mount it into the wall studs, I'd say you could probably put 30-40lbs on it easily. Keep in mind it's only a 17"W x 6"D shelf so I don't know what you think will fit on it that would weigh that much...I guess gold bars might be a cause for some concern. But if you just screw the shelf aimlessly into the drywall using the wall anchors, I honestly don't trust them and I wouldn't put much more than 10lbs on it otherwise it might rip the wall anchors through the drywall and everything will fall on the floor. Not the fault of the manufacturer, it's just every shelf I've mounted using the plastic wall anchors hasn't been very stable or reliable, hence why I bought these bad boys. Bottom line, these shelves are SOLID and well built with a nice finish, well worth the money, you won't be disappointed. And if mounted properly, they will last a lifetime. I plan on purchasing plenty more of these to replace other floating shelves around the house. Just wish they had a 4 pack of these in black like they do with the white ones. ... show more

I ordered one (pair), to see the quality and for the purposes of moving my PS4 and CDs off another (floor rack) and to make floor space in my small home. These did the trick, the finish and metal work is top quality. The included screws are junk, I through them right in the trash and went for better wall anchors to save myself the frustration. I bought these for thin, hardback books. They work well as for size, but the books keep sliding and won't stay upright without laying books flat in between the books sitting upright. I think having thicker paperback books would be fine. Or if you have the shelves completely full, books may not slide. Just frustrating to have to adjust the books each time I pull one off and the others slide. I pulled the far right book on the top shelf and all of the books on the right fell over into the middle. If these weren't already installed, I would return. ... show more

I bought one set of these shelves to try out in our renovated downstairs rec room. One half of the rec room is "for kids" and the other half is where our couch, tv, etc., are. The "kid" size has one full bare wall that I wanted to turn into a sort of library/picture wall. (Our son reads A LOT.) Once we got (and hung) the first pair, I loved them and decided to get more. So we now have about six sets hung in a diagonal pattern across the one wall (twelve shelves, total) for kids' books. Then we got a couple more sets to hang "stacked" on another wall to create a library of our (non-kid) books. They really do look gorgeous and were super easy to hang. (I especially appreciate that the wall anchors they included are METAL. So many other shelves we've ordered include plastic wall anchors, and we always run into trouble with them snapping or bending. The shelves seem a little on the pricier side, but honestly, they're totally worth it for the sturdiness and the metal wall anchors!) ... show more

These bookshelves are exactly what we needed for my son's room! I came back to buy more and decided to add my review. I did not use the supplied hardware and I would not recommend using them. In general, I seldom use supplied drywall anchors as they're typically less than the bare minimum of what the furniture requires. Always use your own drywall anchors! Fortunately, the ends of these bookshelves fell right over two studs! I used my own screws and had to create a wider opening on the shelf to accommodate it. I did notice that with all of my son's heavy books on these shelves, the metal does slightly bow in the center with no center support. I'm going to add more shelves and spread the books out a bit so they won't permanently bow more over time. ... show more
