Before I got these, we were literally using $25 sets of Spiderman kids-toy walkie talkies from target for our road trip caravan communications. Not only are these cheaper, the range is at like 3x, has secure channels, and sound so much better! Initially I was worried that the cheap packaging might imply a bad product, but on reflection, the product is great and I'd rather not pay for window dressing. If there was one wish I had, it would be that there was a place to insert the small instructions paper inside the walkie talkies, because it'll be hard to remember how to access the advanced features when I lose these instructions. ... show more

This it's a cute little system that I got for myself and my neighbor in case power goes out. The only down size is you cannot leave it on all day it will drain the battery I've had to replace the battery twice since I purchased it I'm going to say less than a month ago but as long as you cut it off when you're not using it and cut it on for a few hours say about 4 or 5 hours 6 hours you'll be good ... show more

These walkie talkies are a good value for the price. They are relatively easy to use once they are set up. I used these with Amazon Basics AAA 850 mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries , and the battery life was very good. You'll need an external charger, you can't recharge the batteries inside the walkie talkies. The voice sound quality is very good, I didn't have any problems with extraneous noise or distortion. The built-in flashlight is not very bright, but it's convenient if you need to read something. Note that these are reasonably well built, but not what I would call rugged. They are not weather sealed. If you need something for wet conditions or conditions where the walkie talkies will be banged around a bit, these are probably not the right choice (but you'll need to pay quite a bit more for more rugged units). If you are transporting these walkie talkies, you may want to remove the batteries while in transit. It's easy to accidentally press the power button to turn a unit on, running down the batteries unintentionally. There's no way to lock the power button. One big problem I found with the Amazon description of these walkie talkies is the use of the phrase "Long Range," and the claim of 2W maximum transmission power. This is somewhat misleading. The FCC allows up to 2W of transmit power on channels 1-7 and 15-22 (other channels are limited to 0.5W). The manufacturer's description on Amazon of these walkie talkies includes the claim "The maximum transmission power is limited to 0.5 watts or 2 watts depending on the channel." However, the manual states that the transmission power is less than or equal to 0.5W, apparently on any channel (see image of manual page). This indicates that on most channels, only 1/4 of the maximum transmit power is available on these devices. This wouldn't be a problem if the manufacturer didn't claim 2W transmission power and "Long Range." If you just need basic walkie talkies, these are a good value, but if you really need long range, you can find other (more expensive) devices that have much higher transmit power. ... show more

We bought these for a cruise and they did not disappoint. They had range and were clear and easy to use. We will be getting a new set since we gave this set to a young lady on the boat who mentioned how they may be useful for her to use with her son. They did not work the entire length of the boat, you definitely had to be within a certain range. But it definitely helped us keep up with our 13 yo and let her explore a bit. ... show more

When I first opened the package, the weight alone initially depressed me. They are extremely lite. The plastic clip on them won't last long. I tried using it, but it was pretty obvious that it was going to snap off. However, these are so small that you can easily slip it into a pocket. The best thing I liked about these were how well they work. We took them to our cabin, where there is no cell phone service or internet, extremely dense, thick forest. My wife kept one in the cabin as I went for a hike. I hiked out alittle over 2 miles and we could still hold a clear conversation. I would definitely purchase these again.
