I haven't used it in the sun yet, so I can't comment on the color changing effect. As for the ball, it's ok for what it is. Not overly impressed however. The description made it seem better than it is. It's a ball, and it bounces.

The media could not be loaded. This ball is so fun! We already purchased the moon ball, and loved it so much we went ahead and got a lava ball too. It bounces really high! At least two stories. We also love that it changes color in the sunlight. This encourages outside play, but also my son's favorite color is red. The color change from yellow to red is very fast. It takes just a little longer for the red to fade back to yellow. Love it! ... show more

I have a Waboba moon ball and a Waboba street ball and they are both amazing, so i thought, " why not get a lava ball?" So i got one and it is amazing. The lava ball is 2.48" inches, which is the same size as a moon ball. The street ball, on the other hand, in 2.25" inches. So onto comparing the moon ball and the lava ball... The lava ball is slightly heavier then a moon ball. While the moon ball bounces in random directions (which makes it harder to catch), the lava ball is round and almost always goes where you intend it to. The lava ball is also slightly bouncier then the moon ball. The lava ball changes it's color by the suns UV rays in about 20 secs (In direct sunlight). I have a laser which has the same frequency as a the suns UV rays. When I shined the light on the "lava" parts, it turned dark red! I would definitely recommend this ball to anyone who is looking for a ball that really bounces high. It's a little heavy, but, as i said before, it bounces VERY high. If you want something lighter, that still bounces high, get a Waboba moon ball (https://www.amazon.com/Waboba-Moon-Ball-Colors-Vary/dp/B00IDZZ96Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1533338776&sr=8-2&keywords=moon+ball%5C). If you want something just a little smaller, and looks REALLY cool, and still bounces pretty high (but its harder to catch, as the moon is, because of the edges in it) then I recommend a waboba street ball (https://www.amazon.com/Waboba-Street-Ball-Colors-Vary/dp/B004RGSF6Y/ref=sr_1_5?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1533338697&sr=1-5&keywords=street+ball). Waboba Balls are a blast, this one does change the lava color and boy does it bounce. Smaller than a baseball, firmer than a tennis ball, but would not hurt to get hit by it, unless it was thrown hard. More info Review of the Waboda balls, prior to use in the ocean, water but at least a good explanation of them Lava Ball, Fun size, bounces REALLY well, good ball to play with on cement, surfaces, kindof hard, like a hard foam, some cushion, 2.54 oz, for reference a baseball is 5.3 oz. Street ball, really good on surfaces, I think it is meant to take somewhat erratic bounces, but bounces fairly true. 1.86 oz. About the same sponge level as the Lava Ball. This seems like it will wear well on cement. Sol, This seems like the safest most kid friendly, as it is 2.2 oz, almost as big as the softball, seems like a very light weight foam so it won't hurt if hit by it. It won't go near as far as the surf or extreme. Those are almost projectiles. The Sol might be a little big for under 6 to through well but then kids should do fine with it. Surf, this is very similar to Extreme but a softer gel like filling, almost like a soft stress ball. Really well constructed. 2.83 oz, it is a little larger than the Extreme, not much. Extreme, oddly enough this is 2.9 oz, it feels a lot heavier than the Surf. It is a little smaller but much more dense. I think this one should be played with carefully on the water as it seems like it could pack a punch. ... show more
