My grandson is a cowboy. All the way and he needed something better than a plastic gun. So I got him this one. It is made of metal, so it’s heavy like a pistol should be, it is very sturdy, it has been dropped a few times and is still fine, we wears it from the moment he gets to my house until it’s time to go home (no, he doesn’t sleep in it!). The only drawback is the holster, it’s a cheap plastic deal that isn’t holding up as good as the gun. We have had to fix one of the brads that came loose about a month after we got it. To be honest, I am getting him a leather holster so that will no longer be a problem. He will look like a 100% cowboy then!! Overall, it’s worth the money if you need something realistic. We don’t shoot the caps, we use our imagination for all the shooting, so I can’t speak to that issue. I would recommend this product! ... show more

My grandson got this for his birthday and was so excited. We'd previously played with dollar store plastic cap guns which eventually landed up breaking. This one has a sturdy plastic handle and the rest of the gun is metal. I don't think it will break. My grandson uses the included holster and plays with it even if there are no ring caps inside. It was a hit. It's made in Spain and looks real except for the orange tip. Obviously we limit where my grandson plays with this gun and we're with him when he plays with it because you never know if a toy will be mistaken for a real gun. For those that can't find the 12 count ring caps you can use the 8 count ring caps. You have to cut up the 8 count in half but it works. I did find some 12 count but they're so expensive that it's not worth buying them. Edit: December 5th 2023 The gun was purchased 19 months ago. We just played with the gun again a week ago and it's still holding up. As long as you're not tossing it around or dropping it, it should stay in excellent condition. Finally, a toy that someone actually took some pride in making. We bought 3 of these for our 2, 3 1/2 and 5 1/2 year olds. The entire thing is die-cast metal except the handle and a plastic release button for loading. It has nice "authentic"-appearing detail. It is life-size. The trigger pull is probably about 7 pounds, so our 2 year old can't fire it, but he just points it and makes gun noises. The 3 and 5 year-olds can easily fire this with one finger. You can't cock the hammer back--a double action revolver. So, each trigger pull brings back the hammer which is why it requires so much force. There is a secure orange plastic tip to clearly identify it as a toy, otherwise it looks quite real at first glance. The holster and belt are poor quality. The holster is a rubberized plastic/vinyl. The belt is soft nylon webbing and the buckle is plastic. Together, the holster and belt do the job, but given the quality of the pistol I would have expected a better quality. We haven't yet tried these pistols with caps. Maybe in the Summer, which should be about 6 months from now. This is a top-break revolver which means there is a release button the "cracks open" the pistol revealing the cylinder. The cylinder can be completely removed for easy loading. ... show more

Literally the best feeling and best build cap gun I was able to find online! My 6 year old loves it and wont put it down! Good size, and sturdy just like i remember from when I was a little boy!

It does not come with the toy ammunition caps that it needs. It’s hard to find them and they are expensive. So this toy is for the Serious collector type.

If you or someone you know is going to play with this gun, look for something else. The gun looks great at first. I was so happy it was made of die cast metal and not cheapo plastic. But then we actually used the gun. My son was excited to unwrap this gun at Christmas. He loved it, said it was his favorite gift ever. Right away the latch that held the gun from flipping open for loading started to fail. It just kept falling forward. He wasn’t being rough on it. Just pulling the trigger. Okay, we could deal with this little issue. But then the next day the hammer (which is plastic) broke. Just from shooting. Totally inoperable. This brought the tears. Very disappointing. Bought this for my son's Halloween costume. The gun is off great quality and looks excellent. However, it did not come with the holster as advertised. And the whole reason I bought it was because it came with a holster. Now I have to find or make one before Halloween.

My son is really, really rough on toys. When he asked me for a toy pistol, I immediately thought of the old metal revolvers I had as a kid - they were indestructible. Never expected to find anything close to that quality today. This gun looks very realistic - so much so that my wife is nervous about him taking it out in public. It's heavy and feels good in your hand. Not too big for small hands though. Two knocks against it. One - the plastic handle will break. It's only a matter of time. Probably can be reinforced with duct tape. Two - 12 shot ring caps are hard to find and expensive. Still, I dig the gun and my son does too.
