  • Soooooo fun to fly!
Color: Bf109
I never leave reviews cuz I absolutely hate writing. But these planes seriously deserve a review! I highly suggest them for any beginning or even advanced RC guy (like me). Easy to fly, fast, agile, and has the perfect mix of durability and aesthetics (they look so cool, especially if you love WW2 planes like I do). I've bought a total of 9 of these planes and I finally feel experienced enough to offer some good advice. So here you go: 1) Buy either the Corsair or the BF109. They fly the best -- especially the Corsair but they all fly slightly different depending on chance. I haven't had a plane fly poorly, but the Mustang did get a little shaky when going fast or when it was windy and the P40 Warhawk was super jittery. The Corsair is BY FAR my favorite though. I've had 3 and they all flew super good (crashed one straight into a fence and the other one I crashed so many times it simply became inoperable). 2) LEARN TO FLY THESE IN A GRASS FIELD. A BIG ONE! You are going to crash 100,383 times before you get anywhere near adept enough to fly these things in front of your house. But if you're doing it in a giant grass field, then you can crash them literally dozens of times and they won't break. Concrete, on the other hand, can wreck them in one crash. 3) Keep the wheels on. They'll break off from time to time -- to which superglue will mount them back on -- but they'll protect the battery cage from breaking. On the superglue note, it's awesome for glueing together broken wings etc cuz the planes are just styrofoam. 4) Buy extra props. They fall off on impact and don't break often, but they do crack relatively easily so you'll want extra ones trust me. 5) Have needle nose pliers on hand for removing the battery. You'll thank me later. 6) Before your first flight make sure the prop is on securely by gunning it while you hold it then dragging it backwards through the air. If that doesn't make the prop fall off, then you're ready to send it. 7) Make sure your controller is in easy mode on your first flight. Once you get better, go to intermediate mode. That's where I still am, and it's the best mode to fly in IMO. The one time I went into expert mode I drilled my BF109 straight into the concrete and it destroyed my brand new plane. Sucked. 8) When taking off, put the throttle on full, and huck the plane as high as you can at a 45 degree angle into the wind. 9) I'd just fly in circles using the right control knob at first. Then crash it into the grass and repeat. These planes are SO FUN! 10) Once you graduate to flying them outside your house try to land in grass. You basically crash land but it's better than crashing in the street on a failed approach. Then once you master grass, land on the street. But give it several weeks before going for a street landing. Cuz if you bend the shaft that spins the propeller that will essentially total your plane. 11) Land in the street by coming in fast and low. I'll come in at like half speed and once the wheels are down I'll cut power. My landings are now like butter and I'm breaking my planes WAY LESS. 10) You can fly these things almost entirely with the right joystick. Just keep the left joystick pinned (throttle) and fly the thing with the left one. Easy Peasy. 11) Once you're an epic pilot like me, you'll be chasing birds around and dive bombing the kids in the neighborhood. You'll be doing loops and barrel rolls and songs will be written about you that will be sung around campfires for generations to come. These things are awesome, GET ONE! ... show more

  • Amazing!
Color: P51d Mustang
I grew up flying control line planes and always wanted to get into RC planes. I tried a few beginner planes 10 years ago and the results were catastrophic (destroying the plane in 30 seconds). I thought I would give the VolantrexRC plane a try given that it has built in stabilization. I have to say my expectations were low. Boy was I surprised! Plane (P-51) came ready to fly. I charged the supplied batteries and put 4 AAs in the transmitter and was ready to fly. I went to a football field with just a slight breeze. Put the plane in beginner mode and launched it. The plane flew beautifully, very easy to control and nice performance. Had a few hard landings, but the plane was pretty robust - the breakaway prop is awesome. The preprogramed aerobatics are very cool, just make sure you have some speed and are at a decent altitude. Recommend not installing the landing gear, slows the plane down and also snaps the mount if you do a hard landing. Just hand launch the plane with 70% throttle and you should be fine. Love this plane and cannot recommend it enough. ... show more

  • Very cool little plane but not reccommended for beginners
Color: Bf109
This is my 4th Volantex plane and while I would recommend a Volantex plane for beginners, this is not it. This plane is smaller, faster and more fragile. Really fun, but can be a handful. The landing gear are fragile compared to others. Low speed stall characteristics are not good! If you want to go out like Goose in a flat spin, this is your bird! If you are a beginner, get a Volantex Cub first, then move up to this. ... show more

  • Not for novices
Color: Bf109
Unless you have a massive treeless area to fly this plane, do not consider it. It is the same size as the volantex 600, but is a totally different animal. The 600 is a forgiving plane and an excellent park flyer. The bf109 (and other ww2 fighters I assume) is much faster and harder to control. Donโ€™t get me wrong- if you have the room and are an experienced pilot, this would be a reasonable choice. If you fail to qualify in both categories, best to look elsewhere or at least buy the insurance. My 10 year old son is a good pilot and flew his 600 model at our local park until it literally stopped functioning. So we got this plane as a replacement. On itโ€™s first flight, the landing gear on one side ripped off. On the third flight, it ended up going out of range and stuck in an 80 foot tree. All on our first outing. My son is still upset to this day. I tried contacting customer service about purchasing just the plane (and not the whole set up) but got no response at all. I should have just stuck with the 600. Lesson learned! ... show more

  • So worth $127
Color: P51d Mustang
Great little plane. I am a long time R/C guy, this is perfect for an easy fly almost anywhere. Watch it in even slight breezes, it's just a foamie. FUN FUN FUN!

  • Well built out of the box; needed very little trimming; really cool little planes!
Color: T28 Trojan
The Trojan is super easy to fly, stable, easy to land. It has plenty of power to get up above the obstacles, trees, power lines, etc. I wish they had these when I was younger, such a blast! Great job!

  • Great plane with X-Pilot
Color: P40
This plane is excellent. For new/beginner pilots-DO NOT USE THE THREE BLADE PROP. It comes with 3 and 2 blade props. The three blade prop breaks every time. The two blade prop, on the other hand, survives quintillions of crashes. For beginners, this plane is great. The foam is SUPER durable and flexible. So far itโ€™s survived at least 60 smash-downs and more than one roll over and over crash. Not only that, but it flew over a chain fence and the landing gear collided into it and the plane did a not-graceful dive into the ground. The prop save system is excellent, surviving several hard crashes straight into concrete. A tip is to use the right-side stick for turning, as the rudder is less effective. Wind resistance is superb. The only complaint is that the plane tends to be nose heavy during landings. Overall a great little plane! One last note-the rear wheels are not linked to the rudder, so it cannot really taxi. P. S This plane is not great for beginners, as the wings are under the plane, so the glide and slow-fly capabilities are lost. The airspeed needs to be fast to stay in the air. ... show more
