Put this on an 08 Tahoe 5.3 and the difference is not mind blowing but is most definitely very noticeable. Seems to be stronger all through the midrange especially and is much more responsive than with the stock intake. I took the extra time to cut out the hole in the inner fender sheet metal larger to allow more clean cool air into the filter, and blocked off the round hole in the bottom of the box that is unnecessary and lets in lots of water and dirt. Overall a pretty straightforward install, which is good because the directions aren't exactly top quality. The pieces themselves are super nice, way better than some other big name intakes I have installed, and the fit is perfect. Have noticed just about a mile per gallon gain, but that might go up given how hard I was on it after the install just playing around - the sound under load and heavy throttle is much better now, though still very much quiet enough for a family hauler. Bottom line is that I'd recommend this for the better filtration and improved throttle response alone, any MPG gains are just icing on the cake. ... show more

Wow. This intake exceeded even my high expectations. Not joking. Installation is easy, but go to the Volant website for better instructions and color pictures. The instructions with the kit leave something to be desired. Be really, REALLY careful with your MAF; don't drop it, bop it, poke it, or prod it. They're quite sensitive so treat them delicately like an egg or something else fragile. The cover is plastic but it's cool because if I wanted silly metal on my intake to get hot in the engine bay and heat up the intake air, I would have gotten a K&N... I still have my cr@p stock exhaust, but it sounds completely different now with this CAI. Sounds really good, honestly. Can't wait till I can add a Magnaflow to the mix. Protip: Follow step 1 of the instructions and disconnect the battery. If you decide that's too much trouble, you'll get a check engine light, dummy. Disconnecting the battery allows the computer to reset and account for the increased volume of air the engine is being fed. I'm very happy with this intake. i read a few reviews before this purchase, stating a modification of the fan shroud was necessary, my installation went flawless, didnt even need mounting screws supplied, filter box mounted in original place with original screws, took 20 min, 2008 Silverado 5.3 crew cab

After opening the package, I noticed the intake was made of very thick, high quality plastic (much sturdier than OE). All of the hardware is quality and looks great. The installation took less than an hour. The only hiccup with the whole operation was needing to drill another hole in the bottom of the air box in order to secure all the provided hardware. This was a non-issue, expect to do similar modifications on ANY automotive product, nothing ever fits perfectly right out of the box. The engine sounds great under hard acceleration, but sounds absolutely stock otherwise. Really noticed the power while towing my trailer (holds gear better on the highway). The filter itself looks incredibly well made, and says that under normal use it should last 100,000 miles. Would buy again. Installation was done on a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 ... show more

    • Packaged well, fit was rt on and even gave me a bit of throaty sound when I excelerate.
Upgrade for Avalanche. Wanted to see if it would help improve mpg. Depending on how I drive, somewhere between 1-1.75mpg. So, not bad. Still need to upgrade exhaust, so may even get a little better.
