  • Great HUD for viewing content!
I have X-Real Air 2, a Meta Quest 3, and have tried other AR/VR systems. FOR THE MONEY and for viewing videos, this unit is the best of them all. It is lightweight, offers myopia correction, has a large bright screen. It is your own private video space on the cheap. The unit has its own battery power, so it’s not a parasite on your attached unit battery. They provide ear buds that while adequate, some will squawk at. The foam seal is its weakest point, but it is so lightweight that lack of padding is not really an issue. I suffer from severe migraines, which are easily set off, but this unit does not trigger them. You do have to griddle with the myoptic controls. The controls are in the visor, not outside, so you set it, then fine adjust. The headband could be stronger, but these things are nit picks. You get a huge bright screen that anyone can view without added glasses expense for 1/3 the price of x-real glasses (which I love). Hook up the provided hdmi cable to your source and you’re going to town. The unit is sturdy and well built. IMO it does not feel cheap. Whether it can survive a drop to the ground is another story. My wife hates me watching politics. Now I can do it without hearing complaints. I don’t know about gaming, but I will attack that next. It’s not perfect. With a few improvements and of course added cost, this unit can rival so of the beat out there. ... show more

  • Got it for PC gaming/emulators
I got this primarily to use as a cheap way to stream PC games or play emulators when I'm on vacation and it did exactly what I wanted. My phone picked it up right away and started Dex up so no problems there. I streamed some games from my PC via Parsec and played some Steam games, looked good and worked great! Running Emulators is where it really shined as the old 16bit games looked sharp and fantastic. The good: Sharp vibrant screen (more on that later), big screen!, good contrast, colors pop, I actually had to turn down the brightness. Love that you can adjust the lenses to fit your prescription as glasses won't fit in these things. Playing games no ghosting, refresh rate looked smooth, picture was sharp. Headset fits nice on the head and comfortable up against the face. Came with a few cables and goodies so that was nice. This probably would be great for watching movies but that's not what I got it for. The bad: Where it rests on the nose is painful, this is more of a nitpick as I can figure out a cushion on my own, I just wish I didn't have to. While the screen is sharp and I had no problem reading text the lenses just aren't big enough to allow you to see the big screens behind them completely, plus the further away you get from the center blurriness sets in so text becomes unreadable, now you can tilt the glasses so things come in to focus around the edges but that's not a realistic option. HDMI mini is a hassle, I fear busting the port, would have been nice if it was a usb-c or regular hdmi as there's a lot of L adapters for those that would allow you to get the cable out of the way better. Now a warning: This is a monitor attached to your face, that's it, no frills 3dof so if you're gaming you need to keep your head locked in place, if you're rotating the screen one way then instinctively try to look in that direction, instant nausea, it took me a few minutes to consciously lock my head in to place and just look around with my eyes. The meh: For some reason no audio came thru the headset but I don't care, I like my Bluetooth earbuds anyway. In a nutshell it does what I wanted it to do with my phone so I'm happy with my purchase. For the price you can't beat it! ... show more

  • SO close to usable
I knew ahead of time that this is not a smart goggle or oculus type device; I wanted a dedicated device for simplicity. This was so close to working. Pros: 1. plug in to power and hdmi and it shows up like an additional monitor on your computer. no drivers or fiddly bits. 2. good set of cables included 3. packaged nicely 4. pretty lightweight but cable connection causes problems 5. included headphone jack works pretty well Cons: 1. I could never get both my eyes centered in the fresnel lenses. they need more granular adjustment and a little bit of vertical adjustment. 2. focus needs an external knob. you have to take off the HMD to adjust focus then put it back on to see the results. 3. the cables hanging out one side really add up in weight. I needed a longer cable to reach my desktop, and the longer heavier cable REALLY sagged the hdm. the included hdmi cable and usb power are lightweight but they cause the HMD to want to twist on your head. a pigtail to the back would be better. Conclusion: Watching movies works pretty well as you can lay on a couch and the cables don't hang as much. I wanted these for gaming when I travel, so i have a larger screen. It almost works. you have to remove the HMD to see anything in the room, and then I am fighting the adjustments again. Having the cables hanging of the side while sitting in a desk chair gets fatiguing after only a short time. This is terrible for text or precision work, but works well for content consumption: movies, youtube, gaming. Motion sickness is very likely when playing on these, but a short break and you are good to go. ... show more

  • Nice idea, poor execution
The image quality is very poor. With some adjustments of the interpupillary distance, one is able to get the center of the screen in focus. But then the periphery is blurry. You can then try to get the left side of the image in focus by adjusting the interpupillary distance further, but now the center and right portions of the image are blurry. The root cause appears to be distortion caused by the lenses. You will never be able to see the full screen clearly. Stay away! ... show more
