  • Work's Great!
Size: 2 Frames
This honey extractor is so easy to use and is high quality.

  • Pretty good quality
This is our first extractor, as we only have two boxes. Previously we’ve just used the gravity method. You can tell it’s pretty good quality right out of the box. Directions are pretty much non existent, but assembly is a no brainer. It even comes with a small adjustable wrench and plumbers tape for the included spigot. Action is smooth. If I had to criticize, I would say the frame baskets are WAY too big for a standard frame, but that can be shored up easily. Looking forward to pulling some frames this weekend. ... show more

  • Updated July 2023 - Bearings and gear box lubricated with (smelly) automotive grease
Size: 2 Frames
The media could not be loaded. Received this item today. While it appears to be sturdy, there are a number of quality control issues that should be addressed. The drum and baskets should be thoroughly cleaned before using, as they are covered in a thin film of grease/dirt. This is not a major issue however. More significantly, the single ball bearing and its race on the bottom of the drum that support the baskets, which come in direct contact with the honey, are lubricated with a standard automotive bearing grease (very smelly). This bearing and race need to be degreased and re-lubricated with food grade bearing grease before using. Additionally, the gear box and shaft bearings are lubricated with this same grease, and while not in direct contact with the honey they are over the collection drum and are spinning at relatively high speeds, with a chance that some grease can escape. I personally am degreasing and re-lubricating these with food grade bearing grease as well. The machined metal parts, for example the support bar for the gear box, have multiple burrs that need to be removed with a file to keep them from falling into the drum. The two semicircular Plexiglas covers also have plastic burrs on all the edges and cut surfaces. These can be scraped off with the back of a knife, but better that they are not shipped like this in the first place. There are some very rough spots at the base of the baskets that I did not file for fear of removing some of the electroplated finish. The honey gate was coated inside and out with a protective sticky machine oil that could not be removed with detergent, so back to the degreasing for this also. Finally, the screws that hold the cover of the gear box are too long for the tapped holes they are supposed to go into, and the gear box cover remains loose and rattles. The philips head of one screw was so damaged that it could almost not be removed, and I had to add several washers as spacers so that the cover would fit tightly. Update: Upgrading to 3.5 stars. I've been using this extractor for a few years now and it has held up well, but I still vividly remember the issues noted above as-delivered so only a half star upgrade. The hand cranking gets old fast, so I added a 12dc 300 rpm motor to drive the frame basket directly. This required some kludging but wasn't terrible. The main issue after that was the spindly legs. If your frames are even slightly out of balance (they ALWAYS are), the drum shudders and vibrates wildly. I mounted the legs to some old concrete footings, which fixed that problem. If you are handy, I've included pictures of the motor and footings. The motor requires a 12v DC supply with reasonable wattage, a charger won't work. So far the motor has spun about 100 frames, each for 20-30 minutes, and has held up well. ... show more

  • Solid Honey Extractor
I purchased this in advance of my first ever honey harvest and was very satisfied with the quality of the product and the results (nearly 3 gallons of delicious honey from one full 8-frame super). A few notes: 1) Definitely give it a good cleaning with soapy water or a food grade cleaner prior to first use. There were some metal filings and industrial grease in mine when it arrived, which was expected (the instructions say to clean it before using too). 2) Be sure to tighten all the bolts well before use. This is essentially a centrifuge (operates just like a salad spinner or washing machine drum) and any imbalance can cause wobbling that can loosen bolts that haven’t been adequately secured. 3) The metal edge on the inside of the legs is pretty sharp and could possibly cut a finger. I’ve read some reviews where this was mitigated by sanding down the edges. I just put a strip of electrical tape along the edges and this worked fine. 4) If possible, bolt down the feet to further avoid wobbling. Otherwise your going to end up using your body weight to hold it down and keep steady. Overall, this product was easy and quick to assemble, functions well as intended, and appears to be well built for many years of use. It is also easy to clean with warm soapy water. For the price I’d consider it a good value and would recommend it to others getting into beekeeping/honey extraction. ... show more

  • Works and is cost effective.
Size: 2 Frames
This is easy to clean stainless steel, easy to assemble. It came missing one of the leg bolts, however we found that tabletop use was easier due to shaking when turning loaded with one frame or two frames which do not weigh the same. Since it is hand turned it is harder to judge how fast to turn without damaging comb. There is also the ball bearing problem. There is a 6 mm ball bearing in the bottom bolt which is needed to allow the spinner to turn. We found that the best way to clean was to remove that bolt and take it out without turning it over then dump out the ball bearing into the hand to clean it. Trouble is that the wrench won’t quite fit over the bolt so an alternative is to not take off the bolt and turn over the whole machine, catching the bearing in the hand. This is a two person job, but you don’t want to lose it. If you do, just remember it is a 6 mm stainless steel ball bearing. They sent an extra o ring for the honey gate and an extra L bolt but no extra o ring for the bottom bolt so be careful with that one. Still, it works as advertised and is less expensive than most honey extractors. ... show more
