  • A great lens for the price!
Size: 20mm f2.8 Z Full Frame
I currently use this on my Nikon ZFC and it’s a very good lens. The focus is decent and the sharpness is really good… Surprisingly good!

  • Excellent value
Size: 20mm f2.8 Z Full Frame
I bought this to supplement my Nikon 24-120MM lens with is my standard shooting choice on my Nikon Z8. Right off the bat the camera is materially lighter to use. This is big as coupled with high quality optical features this lens shoots beautifully. It also has the optical tweaks built into Photoshop and Lightroom. They help dissipate soft corners and other unwanted optical aberrations. Overall an excellent optical performer and well built exceeded what you would expect for the money. Need even shaper pictures, shoot 5.6. ... show more

  • Inexpensive but not without some issues - read below
Size: 40/2.5 Z Full Frame
Quick review mounted on a Nikon Zf, what it is, dirt cheap, what it's not, super hyper critical sharp. Overall this is a great little lens with little buyers remorse because of the price point to have in your back pocket if you want something that is really close to the human eye. The 35 is a little wider, the 50 a little narrower and since I wanted a 40 for my retro Nikon Zf this came up as a possibility. Will I use this lens all the time, not likely, will I use it when I just want to have something on the cam that's a little gritty, absolutely. To be honest I have my dream lens (Voightlander 40mm Z) on order specifically for this camera and when it comes in I'll likely use it and shelve the Viltrox. But that's the thing, it's cheap in price, construction is actually pretty solid, the USB to update at the base is a nice touch (haven't used it) but that's way nicer than a dock from Sigma or Tamron or worse having to send a lens in for updates. If you want just a dirt cheap nifty-40 then this will suit the bill, the alternative would be the Nikon 40mm F/2 which is slightly faster but a little more money or get an FTZ adapter and pick up some really cheap F Mount lenses used online, more specifically the vintage ones and don't look back. Main issues, soft at f/2.5, better at f/4 but again it's 150 bucks and has character that you can live with. ... show more

  • Cracking little lens
Size: 20mm f2.8 Z Full Frame
Just moved into the z-mount space been shooting Nikon for 40 years. I needed something wider than 24mm @ F4. I got to say this is one of the best lenses I have ever come across. For the money the build quality is amazing considering it’s made of a composite material. When compared to a Nikon 50mm D type lens which was one of Nikons cheapest lenses I would say the viltrox 20mm is far better in quality. I was able to hand hold at lower shutter speeds than I could have imagined my only wish is that if it could have been weather sealed this lens would have been unbeatable in this space. For the price it’s a no brainer in terms of if you should get it. In my opinion every camera bag should have one. ... show more

  • Great lens for the money
Size: 56mm f1.7 Z
Very sharp, with a bit of uneven softness in the corners wide open--actually, it's not right to call the corners "soft" at f1.7; they are just visibly less sharp than the center. Otherwise, amazing sharpness and great bokeh. A lightweight cheapo gem.

  • It just works!
Size: 20mm f2.8 Z Full Frame
It sounds like a low bar, but it just works is miles above a lot of other inexpensive third-party lenses. I wouldn't describe the auto focus as fast, but it's more than sufficient for a wide angle lens where the generous depth of field makes sharpness less critical. There's a bit of vignetting, which you might not even notice after you've composed your shot. Editing my photos, I notice there's some color quantizing. (The posted examples are unedited, aside from converting from NEF to JPG, taken on a Nikon Zf.) It's not a macro lens, but the minimum focus distance is generous, allowing you to compose beautiful backgrounds on close subjects. 20mm is a nice focal length in that there's not a lot of distortion and you can get a lot of depth stopping down just a bit. The lens is lightweight, which might feel cheap to some, but if you've got several prime lenses in your bag, you might appreciate. There's no rattle and the focus ring operation is smooth, so I don't have any doubts of the build quality. There's no aperture ring, so there's less complexity. I appreciate the lens hood, if anything just to protect the frontal element when I set the camera down. For travel, this lens has become a go-to for me. It's lightweight, simple, not-to-dear, and 20mm full-frame seems to work for a wide variety of shots. ... show more
