I'm fairly new to cycling. I purchased this bike in December 2019 for about $230. If you're looking for an actual road bike, you're going to need to spend a little more. However, if you're like me and want to get your feet wet and gain a little more knowledge before spending $1000+ on a bike, this bike isn't a bad decision, so long as you don't mind doing a little research and possibly replacing some of the pieces on this one as you go. Assembly: Assembling this bike will be tough for any first timer. The instructions weren't very helpful, and without any prior experience, I had no way of knowing that my bike was supposed to come with quick release skewers for the wheels, which were missing from what I received. I ended up taking this to a local bike shop to have then assemble and tune it and I also purchased some quick release skewers. Upgrade Suggestions: 1. The first thing you should change is the tires. I replaced the stock tires with Continental Gatorskins and that greatly improved the traction that I was getting and the overall stability and feel of the ride. $70 well spent. 2. If you're looking to change the gear ratios, it is possible for you to switch out the rear 7 speed freewheel with another one with stronger gears. Take note that it is a freewheel and not a cassette on the rear wheel and cassettes do not fit on freewheel wheel hubs and vice versa. Long story short, in order to use cassettes, you'd need to buy new wheels, which would very likely cost as much as or more than this bike. The stock number of teeth on the rear freewheel that comes with this bike are 14-28t. I replaced that with an 11-28t freewheel. That was $30, and now each rotation of the pedals takes me much farther when I need it in that high gear. 3. The saddle. I switched the stock saddle for a lighter, smaller saddle, which was actually more comfortable for me with my riding position, and even better with padded shorts. My bike felt a little lighter, however, this upgrade wasn't quite as life changing as the 2 mentioned above. In my opinion, just about any other non-aesthetic upgrade for this bike probably wouldn't be worth it. For example, a decent wheel set, would most likely require a new cassette, for which you may also need to purchase a compatible derailleur and gear shifters, and so on and so forth. If you're getting that into it, you're probably going to be looking for an actual road bike soon anyway if you aren't already at that point. These days I'm riding about 70 or so miles a week on this thing. When I come across anyone else who's looking to get into cycling but not yet ready or sure about spending a lot on an actual road bike yet, this is one of the bikes that I suggest to them along with the caveats I mentioned above. Easy enough to assemble yourself but I highly recommend getting this bike tuned by a professional even if it looks assembled correctly. My front wheel had a few loose spokes and all the bolts could use some grease. Otherwise, great bike for the price.

a decent enough starting point. i replaced the seat as the stock one is uncomfortable, brakes, the rim tape, the tubes, the tires, front and rear and wheel reflectors, the pedals, and the stem to raise the drop bars as they were uncomfortably low, and the handlebar tape. then i added a kickstand, a bottle holder and gel pads to the handlebars. after all of that and having it looked over and properly set up by a local bike shop, i'm happy and confident in it. cost a lot more than 350. and if i'd have known that i would have just bought a more expensive bike to begin with. but i learned a fair amount. and ended up with a bike that i can ride around town or take on longer rides and not worry about. basic setup is easy, the bike is partially preassembled, but getting everything dialed in is a little trickier. also project aside it would have been helpful to physically go to a bike shop and try out bikes to get an idea of size and fit. also there isn't not very much space on the handlebars to fit lights or mirrors or whatever accessories you might want. what i wanted out of this was a lighter weight modern equivalent to a 1970s chicago steel schwinn varsity road bike. and at 27ish lbs it is relatively light and agile, especially for the money, i feel i caught that particular dragon. ... show more

    • Pretty nice bike
It went together easy enough. Only thing I really struggled with was trying to figure out how the reflectors are supposed to go on properly. To me they just don't fit around the bar where they belong. I plan to get some different reflectors eventually from the store. The other negative issue was the tires. I don't know how they long they will last but they really don't look like they will take much- I wanted to believe that this would not be the case but I bet I wind up pushing it home eventually. The bike rides real nice and I like how it shifts and it feels very light and I think it was worth the money. I like it. I took it out this last weekend for a pretty good ride and brought a screwdriver with me and adjusted the stops on the device that pushes the chain to the smaller and bigger gears on the pedal sprocket. It was a little clunky prior to the adjustments but it really did adjust very well ultimately. Good ride home after! ... show more

Owned the bike since May of 2019. The spokes started failing (heads popped off) after about 600-700 miles (on rear tire only), so I'm a little disappointed in their longevity. Spoke size is 2mm x 287 mm. Still using the original tires, though they are basically racing slicks at this point. This is the best bike I've ever owned when it comes to riding without using hands, very steady and easy to lean steer; on longer commutes I like to ride no hands to prevent hand fatigue. Bike seat is comfortable to me, though I never ride further than about 25 miles in a day. Rear shifter probably needs some adjustment, as it no longer clicks at exactly each gear, though it did for the first 400 miles. Rear cassette bearing came loose and lost the bearings at about mile 650. So that was a bummer. Replaced rear cassette with "DRIFT MANIAC E-Bike Freewheel 7 Speeds 11-28/11-34T Teeth EPOCH" (off Amazon). Brakes work are fine, though it is hard to brake quickly in an emergency situation if you aren't leaning all the way down with your hands down by the brake. No problems with assembly.
