Printed information with product insufficient online information fractured. Seams cerbro can’t access shunt settings or multipoint inverter charger for setup. VRM online lacks feedback on why things can’t be accessed. The assumption these days is that internet connection is given. On a boat that is false. It’s nearly criminal to sell this and touch screen without ability to configure smart shunt and multipoint inverter. It is criminal to have to go online with VRM tools upload configuration and NOT Be ABLE TO EDIT CONFIGURATION ONLINE. It is also a major issue to require WIDOWs to edit files. Let me begin with my standard Victron review leader by saying once more that their lack of technical support is baffling and at times can be perilous. Victron Corporate directs all tech support to their distributors. Fine unless you buy from here on Amazon. You’ll see a lot of questions on how to reach support. The answer is, you must contact the seller (Amazon will not have the answer and will refer you to the seller). The seller will (eventually) direct you to their source. In one case I was directed to a sole proprietor in some small shop in NJ. Helpful for a while, but when things became complex he didn’t have the resources to help on the hard stuff. This left me calling Victron Distributors all over the East Coast of the US. “Hi, yeah, I didn’t buy this from you but…<click>” You get the picture. OK, moving on. Yep, I bought one Victron to tell me what the other Victrons were thinking. Like all Shop Stewards it turned out to be a complex relationship. It worked good for the three solar controllers and BVM, but when I connected the Victron Inverter/Charger the boats power systems failed. According to one distributor (the one that would finally either answer their phone or return my call), unless I also buy the $340 touch panel so I am unable to use my $340 Cerbo to provide a full and complete picture of my ships systems. #ThinksIWishedIKnewEarlier Seems that once the Cerbo is plugged in it transfers all control from the I/C to the Cerbo. Without the screen you cannot reprogram the I/C so that it will function. Therefore, the Bluetooth and/or WiFi connection to your phone, iPad, PC are all for information purposes only and offer no real control. Certainly not the impression you get from any of the marketing or technical write-ups from V. This one gets a “Caveat Emptor” Recommendation. Helpful?👇🏽 ... show more

The Cerbo GX and virtually everything from Victron is synonymous with quality and high level functionality. However, the Cerbo GX was recently impacted by a design issue and may (as in my case) fail if used on a 48V system. See the following excert from Victron Technote Aungust 2022 -V5: On the recent batches of the Cerbo GX, there is an error in the design of the power supply causing it to fail on – some – 48V systems. In such system, a replacement Cerbo with the same internals is likely to fail again, unless installed according to this document. In most cases, the failure happens immediately when power is applied to the unit. I.e. when wiring it, installing the fuse and/or switching the system on. It can also happen when power is re-applied to the Cerbo after being installed. Note that this is not a safety issue, and the percentage of it occurring is 1% or lower. Systems with a 12 or 24V battery are not affected. This document provides a solution by adding a capacitor on the power input. Note that the solution proposed in this document does not fix an already broken Cerbo. A broken Cerbo NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, which is covered under warranty. When installing the replacement, check its serial number against the range in this document. When it matches, make sure to add the capacitor, to prevent the replacement from failing as well. When to install the capacitor? The chance of this failure occurring is rather small, well below 1%. When it does happen, its mostly during the installation. Recommendation: - Replacing a failed Cerbo GX: always add the capacitor. - New installs: preferably add the capacitor. - Installed and running systems: no need to make an effort to add the capacitor. For example, there is no need to plan and execute special trips of installers to equip working installations with the capacitor. Note that adding the capacitor is no longer necessary once we’ve started shipping newer batches, with serial number being HQ2221 or higher. So, if a reseller is acting in good faith here on Amazon, please screen the inventory and either replace the unit with one outside the service bulletin range or supply the necessary 100V 100uF capacitor with the power lead preemptively for the customer. I'm working through the warranty process now, and unfortunately, due to the issue, our data output is down and therefore the demonstration we had planned for today isn't happening. I'll update once I see how this is resolved by all parties. Addendum #1: Affected model/serial numbers Model: Cerbo GX, part number BPP900450100 Serial numbers: HQ2201xxxxx up and including HQ2220xxxx Overall, Victron does a great job, and if you are going 12 or 24V you should be happy if not a little light in the pocket ;-) ... show more

    • VRM instructions are terrible

This is an edit. The VRM portal rejected my attempt to register the Cerbo GX. I received this in a whitebox with no Victron markings. No cables other than the power cable and no instructions. The instructions on Victron's website to "install" it on the VRM site were to use the "VRM ID" from the sticker on the side of the Cerbo. This was blatantly misleading. The only way I figured out what number to use was by trial-and-error. When I saw the Cerbo on my network, I noticed a number beside it and so, with nothing to lose, I tried that. It worked! Victron equipment is the best but it is not good salesmanship to mislead your customers with nonsense about how to connect the Cerbo to VRM. ... show more
