It would NOT fit on the coils springs of my Mercedes 123 300 TD due to the fact that I could not get it into the turns of the spring. The plate type did NOT work either as it would require some unacceptable beating on the plates to get them in between the coils of the spring. It just did NOT work for my application, It might work on the 126, but that is to be seen. ... show more

    • They did what i needed them to do
They seemed to be very nice quality out of the box and they come in a little foam insert that can be reused when putting them in the tool box. I did have to grind down the head on the end of the safety pin so that i could get it to slide over the coil spring (still needed to hammer it through), but that wasn't so bad. The rods will bow a bit when you are pulling the coil together, but still performed as it should. Good value for the price. ... show more

This tool feels sturdy and I like the safety pins. After the spring was off the tool shifted slightly, but I felt comfortable working with the grenade of a spring with this tool. Only issue, the car (1978 Fiat 124) is difficult to use this tool with, the bolt seemed too long and it took a couple tries to get it fitted. ... show more

    • Weak metal and low quality
Let me start off by saying I have used this style tool on my vehicles over the decades. I decided to buy one for the added convenience of not needing to drive into town to get a free loaner version of this tool from my car parts store. What I found is that it's more of a pain to use it to then it is worth. This is basically a single use tool. The metal for the threaded rod chips and deforms under load. The threaded rod is more like an acme thread which is faster travel but less adjustment. The retention pin holes were not drilled correctly on one of my compression clamps so it would not fit over the spring ...which is not good. When you tighten it down, you get metal filings every where. Save yourself the hassle and buy better or get a free rental from the parts store. ... show more

I've had bad experiences in the past dealing with removing top hats but this made it a breeze and I love the locking slides but one broke on the first strut I did BUT I still managed to use it for the other struts, I just had to angle the lock so it'd still be somewhat secure. all in all this kit is very convenient, wish it came in a portable protective box of some sort. ... show more
