I couldn't tell before we purchased the lights if the setting would remain even if the power was turned off. They do! We have three lights. All lights are set to motion detection only (off, full on with motion, off again). We have the third light turned off at the switch. When we want motion detection, we turn on the switch. If we want full lights that don't turn off, turn the switch off and on again within two seconds. They work exactly like I want them to. Easy install (we do use anti-oxidant compound since the fixture wires are aluminum and the house wires are copper). Don't forget to wrap the ground wire from the fixture around the green screw on the crossbar before attaching to your house ground! If a wire ever becomes loose, you don't want to make a person become the grounding. Make sure you have some weather resistant caulk on hand to go around the perimeter of the fixture and the wall. Read the instructions. Don't forget to use dimmable bulbs so they don't flicker. We love these lights. They look really good and work well. ... show more

This was just the thing to update our old patio light. The ability to switch between auto dim/on/off is a great feature. The one downside that we found was that it’s open on the bottom so unfortunately bugs will get inside.
