Description

The Viagrow Chunky or Ginormous horticultural grade perlite increases water absorption & aeration when added to soil & soilless growing media. Viagrow coarse grade horticultural perlite is pH neutral and odorless. Use Viagrow Coarse and Chunky perlite alone for a completely inert hydroponic medium with good capillary & air retention properties. Perlite can also be added to any medium to improve texture, aeration, and drainage. Combined chunky perlite with coir (coconut fiber) VCCB5, & Vermiculite for a great raised bed or container gardening mix. Course and chunky perlite is light weight and great for roof top gardening, hydroponic media, indoor and outdoor gardening, landscaping, bulb and tuber storage and can be used for compost aeration among many other uses. I amended my raised garden beds with perlite, vermiculite and azomite. It's just what they needed to loosen up and replenish old soil used for the last 2 years. What a difference! I got two bags; one was about what I expected, one was pretty bad. The bags add up to 15 gallons-- after sifting I ended up with ABOUT 2.5 gallons of course/chunky, and 2.5 gal of typical size. That means there was technically about 10 gallons of unusable dust. However, if I only received the first bag I would be happy enough. If I only got the second bag I would have to try to get my money back. It must have been crushed. You may get a good bag or a junk bag. The red bucket is coarse, the other regular. The closeup shows there was a lot of gray gravel mixed with the crappy bag...not sure what that is. ... show more

    • These bags are NOT huge, I purchased them thinking they were a large quantity, but they are not.

First, the product is fine, my problem is the price for the quantity, according to the reviews, it said the bag was HUGE, It definitely isn't huge.. about the size of a bag of mulch, a bit smaller, and so the price of 37.00 for 2 is not a good deal. I needed to order more, and the price went down, so I thought I might get a price adjustment, but amazon did not offer that, I could send it back at MY expense. Pays to shop around before you buy. Very pleased with this purchase, but I had just purchased a 1quart bag of the same quality perlite for only a third of the price. Really wish I would have found this first.

This Perlite is smaller and dustier (which made it harder to work with and not breathe in) from what i am used to working with. I prefer the larger granules ive purchased at nurseries.
