  • Wrong size, but good quality
Size: 3.75 Inch
I had to send this item back because we ordered the wrong size, but it felt sturdy and would have been great if it we correct. The seller was communicating well to try to resolve the issue but ultimately I ordered the wrong item.

  • A good addition to any small lathe
Size: 2.75 Inch
I have a small inexpensive lathe. As I was a beginner, I was a bit untrusting of using the pieces you drive into the wood plus I wanted to make items that would be hollowed out such as cups and bowls. I also hate the waste of using the disc. Once you drive screws in you have a fair amount of wast depending on the project. After looking and comparing several chucks, I singled out this chuck as my choice due to reviews, price, etc. As I have never owned another item like this, I have nothing to compare apples to apples with. What follows will be my observations from the many times I have used it. The chuck itself has been invaluable in the creation of multiple items. It is versatile and I have learned ways to design my creations so they use the maximum ability of the chuck. This allows me to take the piece on and off the lathe and work on both sides of a project without needing the centering spindle as it would be in the way. My attempt at an egg in an egg cup is represented in the pictures. The chuck was key in making these pieces. The other images are of the lathe I have it on. As you can see, the lathe is fairly small. Sorry, took the pictures before I cleaned up the cedar shavings. The only real beef I have with the item is that the grooves on the chuck key and gear could be deeper to give a better grip for tightening the chuck. I like to ensure the piece I am working is as secure as possible. When tightening, if you do not maintain a good amount of downward force the chuck key will force itself up out of the gear. It makes it feel like you are stripping it out. I know this is not the case. This prompts me to stop lathing frequently to tighten the chuck to keep the piece from ejecting itself when an unseen flaw in the wood cause the piece to catch. I have had this happen and I am not blaming the chuck. It was a contributing factor, but not the main cause. I believe I expected a bit more for the cost of the item, however it has been a good working piece of equipment and I would most likely buy again. Again, I am a novice and could be off base on the items above. I am just putting forth what my experience has been so that others starting out will see it through my eyes. ... show more

  • The adapter size advertised isn't what was sent
Size: 3.75 Inch
The adapter size advertised with this chuck isn't what was sent. It reduces down to 1" x 8 tpi instead of the 3/4 tpi advertised. In order to use it an additional adapter had to be purchased.

  • Great little chuck!
Size: 2.75 Inch
This is a great chuck for small to medium spindle turning and bowls up to maybe 6 inches in diameter. Maybe a little bigger but it's more for the small stuff. It holds tight, it does have dovetail Jaws so cut your tenons accordingly. I can't see spending double the cost for a bigger brand name mini chuck. This suits my needs perfectly for tons of projects. ... show more

  • It works, barely
Size: 2.75 Inch
This was my first chuck purchase and I couldn't see spending hundreds of dollars if I was not sure I would really be using a chuck often. Well I can clearly see why to spend the money on one after this purchase. This chuck just doesn't tighten up well or align very straight, everything I put into it has to be adjusted for several minutes before it turn "true" and that is not ever perfect. Trying to use the screw that came with it is the worst part, nothing spins true and the second you touch the wood with your chisel the chuck comes loose and the board jumps off the lathe. ... show more
