  • Good alternative to the pricier brands.
Style: 10" x 18"_370W
This is the exact same 10 x 18 lathe as Rockler and WEN sell. I believe Harbor Freight and Rikon also sell a version of this lathe. The main difference is the color of the paint. As such, it has the same list of pros and cons as those models. The 22" bed extension for the Rockler 10 x 18 bolts right on with no issues, although I did decide to repaint the lathe base and extension so that everything matched. The 1/2 HP motor is perhaps a little on the small side for this lathe, but so long as you're not using it in a high-production commercial environment it should be more than adequate. Yes, it is possible to stall the lathe if a turning tool catches, but I have not personally found stalling to be an issue under normal conditions. While not as versatile as continuous variable speed, the selection of speeds is more than adequate. The spindle is threaded 1" x 8tpi, and both the headstock and the tailstock are set up with MT2 tapers so finding accessories is easy. The included drive center and live center are more than adequate and should serve well for many years. Be advised that the socket for the tool rest is 16mm as opposed to 5/8" so you will find that some of the aftermarket rests do not fit perfectly. I've got a nice curved stainless steel tool rest for bowl turning that I cannot use because it will not stay in place due to fitting too loosely. (I'll make an adapter sleeve for it...eventually.) All in all, I'm happy with my purchase and have been enjoying wood turning. I would highly recommend this lathe to anyone considering buying a mid-size lathe--especially if you're running tight on funds. ... show more

  • Not as true as expected
Style: 10" x 18"_370W
When end drilling rods it does not drill straight like my bigger lathe. Very disappointing.

  • Outstanding customer service!
Style: 10" x 18"_370W
This company is amazing. I ordered this item as I was in the process of building a workshop. I didn’t open the box until after the return date had passed. The box was rough and I should have opened it sooner. It was damaged and parts were missing. I contacted customer support and explained the situation to them. They didn’t hesitate for a second to help me and in less than a week a new unit arrived. I have purchased a few other Vevor products before and now I’m going to be buying a lot more of them. 5 stars all the way 👍👍👍👍👍 ... show more

  • Pretty good lathe.
In general, I’m pleased with this lathe. Good points: - For the money, this is a good quality lathe, comparable to any other midi lathe in this class. - The 3/4 horsepower motor is strong enough for my largest projects. - I really like the digital speed readout. This feature really sold me on this lathe. - The slides and clamping mechanism for the tool rest and tail stock work well and they slide smoothly. - This lathe is very quiet. The rubber legs are very sturdy and dampen vibrations. - The lathe is heavy and very stable. I don’t find that it moves while in use. - Despite some other comments, my lathe came with a standard 1 inch by 8 TPI headstock. I did not need an adapter. Bad points: - The slowest speed is about 700 RPM. That’s a little faster than I prefer for fine sanding. - The pictures and description never mention this, but the lathe has three speed ranges. You need to move the belt to different pulley positions to achieve the full range of speeds. I wish this was made clear in the description. - The tool rest is very poor quality. It is cast metal, and the top edge was not very smooth. I smoothed mine on a grinding wheel, but it still has a noticeable chip. I’ll have to buy a different tool rest soon. ... show more

  • Spend the extra money and buy a JET. It is worth it.
The lathe it's self it nice. Features are good and seems to be built well. I purchased the lathe with the 550W motor. The one they sent me is the 370W motor. The motor and the lathe both are labeled 370W. I contacted the company about this and asked them to send me the correct 550W motor. They told me that the suppler of their motors mislabeled the motors. Ok, than why are the lathes mislabeled too? Also this has been an on going problem for them but they have not taken steps to fix this issue. I do not believe them. I turn mostly epoxy and hardwoods. One item I turn is a wooden mallet out of mulberry. It should take me about 20 minutes to make one mallet. It takes over an hour because the motor slows down to a crawl if you try to take more than a very thin strip off at a time. I will not buy from this company again. I recommend that you spend the extra money and buy a different company. Maybe in the future they will improve their customer service. ... show more

  • You get what you pay for - UPDATED
Style: 14" x 40"
VEVOR Benchtop Wood Lathe, 14 in x 40 in - the black model. I should have known better and wasn't expecting much but I did expect it to work for more than 2 days. For some simple long table legs, this looked to be the ticket and had it not quit completely after a few hours, it would have been fine for the job. From the beginning even unloaded, the motor wouldn't spin up without giving it a helping hand to get going but eventually started working. Sometimes it would start up normally, sometimes it struggled and wouldn't start without help, sometimes it would start slow then speed up and sometimes it wouldn't start at all then work again 20 minutes later. It was very inconsistent and very frustrating and I should have returned it immediately but I discarded the box. Finally today after about 4 hours total use over a few days, It was working as expected for 30 minutes after the will it or won't it start up dance then after switching off, completely refused to start at all or even budge. It is now totally dead and I was unable to finish my last leg. The build itself isn't bad, good enough for my needs and I would have been happy if the motor worked as expected every time. I'll also add that the 3 cutting tools that come with it are pretty bad and dulled quickly even in pine but i had purchased a $100 set of good quality tools so wasn't bothered. I have submitted a ticket with Vevor and will return to update this review when things get sorted out. -UPDATE- After a back and forth with Vevor, they are sending out a replacement unit. ... show more
