I recently purchased the Vetroo V5 CPU Air Cooler, and overall, I've been quite pleased with its performance. This product works exactly as intended, efficiently cooling my AMD Phenom processor even under heavy loads, and all this at a very reasonable price. The five heat pipes and 120mm PWM fan deliver on their promise of up to 150W of cooling power. With this cooler, I've noticed a significant reduction in my CPU's temperatures, enabling it to work at its best. However, while the Vetroo V5 is an effective and budget-friendly cooler, it does come with its own set of challenges. The installation process proved to be quite a task. The cooler requires a great deal of pressure to tighten down the spring-loaded screws to the motherboard's support bracket. This isn't a job for the faint-hearted or those unaccustomed to assembling their own PC components. A more user-friendly installation design would have made the experience a lot smoother. Despite this, if you're looking for a budget-friendly CPU air cooler that delivers on performance, the Vetroo V5 is a strong contender. Just be prepared for a bit of a workout during installation. It's a small price to pay for the impressive cooling capabilities you get in return. So, with all things considered, I would still recommend this product for its effectiveness and value for money. Specs: AMD Ryzen 5600X Aorus B550 Elite AX V2 G.Skill Trident Z 2x8GB 3200MHz (black and white) EVGA 1070 FTW3 housed in a: Corsair 4000D/4000D Airflow case (I have both front panels). So I've found this cooler through JayzTwoCents. You know, the guy who nearly convinced me to upgrade to watercooling... but I digress (hah). I've had this for a few weeks now but never wrote a review... so here are my thoughts: Pros: - Surprisingly good cooling! I was blown away by how good this little guy is (check screenshots). Idle temps are very much under control: low 30s all day. Even lower if you can get by the noisy fan (more on that later). Load temps never seem to cross 70s. I ran Cinabench R20 and maxed out at around 65.5 C. I do have plenty of airflow as I mentioned with my case, so your mileage way vary. - Despite there the small gap between the heat pipes on the base plate, it doesn't seem to affect the heat transfer at all. The part of heat pipes touching the IHS is actually nicely polished. It doesn't feel cheap or like they've machined it flat and left it rough. Point is, heat transfer is absolutely a non issue and there is almost zero compromises here. - I don't know if this is a ceracoat, or if it's actually painted, but either way, there doesn't seem to be any paint isolation. if you're worried its color being black, don't. I have noticed when installing it that the heatsink chipped a little (check the photos) so it may be in fact painted. Either way, temps don't leave me worried too much about it. - RAM clearance is absolutely NOT an issue. I'm not using the closest slot to the CPU, but I definitely could. Even if you orient the fan downwards, there is a cutout in the heatsink to allow you to clear your DIMMs, but I wouldn't do that as your fan won't get adequate air with the GPU in the way. - The ARGB fan is pretty nice and feels high quality. The ARGB cable a daisy-chain in case you wanna connect another ARGB thing to it. It doesn't hog your only ARGB header, so that's nice. - They include a second set of fan clips in case you wanna install a 120mm pull fan, but that's obviously an extra cost and I'm not sure how many people would do that. You're better off with a bigger heatsink at that point. Cons: - Speaking of installation, this was easy to install. The mounts are already pre-essembled, and you're using the stock AMD backplate. However, and I know that this can help prevent people from overtightening the screws, the mounts have springs, similar to stock AMD coolers. It made installing a bit frustrating as I had to apply more force than I felt necessary to tighten the screws. It also didn't help that the heatsink was in the way somewhat and I could barely get to the screws exactly perpendicular. The irony is that those screws are supposed to stop you from overtightening the cooler, but I still felt like I did. I didn't, so that's obviously good. - Noise. Oh the noise. So, with some fan curve adjustments, you can get this thing to be bearable. But stock out of the box, this thing is loud. It can go up to 1500rpm, and it really does wanna work at the higher RPMs. But don't do let it. First off the cooling is perfectly adequate at half around 700-900rpm, as you can see from my temps in the screenshots. The 65C temp I got is from Cinabench so that's pretty much the worst case scenario for most people. Realistically, you'll get around mid 50s in a game. I tried to adjust the fan curves just to see what kind of cooling I would get, and the temps barely fell. The fan is a hydraulic bearing type, so there is a fluid inside and it's the one most commonly used at this price bracket. So my recommendation is to go into your BIOS and tune the fan curve to something more bearable. Granted my 4000D isn't the quietest case, but it's definitely a noticeable thing, at least for me. Anything above 900rpm starts to sound like a rattling mess. It sounds broken almost, and it's one of the reasons why I'm gonna switch it out soon. - 150 TDP. That's fine for most CPUs, especially AMD's Ryzen, but a lot of Intel users might wanna look elsewhere. The bottom line is that this an AMAZING cooler for the money. Don't even consider the Hyper 212 from CoolerMaster with this on the market, it's just better. It's got very good heat dissipation, it has 5 heatpipes that feel more than adequate for most people, the included fan feels pretty high quality, the colors are vibrat and it's ARGB, it's black and I even wouldn't mind the loudness if it was a good sound signature. But if you care about acoustics like me, look elsewhere. Yes that's a dealbreaker to me. But if you just want something that'll keep your CPU cool, you're on a budget, and won't do any crazy overclocking, then this is a bargain. Go right ahead! Update 11/17/20: The fan on my cooler developed a minor problem with the fan causing the lights to work intermittently. I sent an email to support, and they offered to send me a replacement. They sent a replacement cooler in retail packaging with an addressable RGB fan instead of the original rainbow fan. The retail packaging also now lists that the cooler has 5V ARGB lighting. Pictures updated to include the new box. Overall amazing customer service from both the response times and issue resolution, and the company made good on their earlier statement that they would be using ARGB fans in future products. If I hadn't already left a 5 star review, I definitely would want to give this a 5 star review now. At a glance this cooler seems like a run of the mill hyper 212 clone, but it has a few noteworthy features that set it apart. The foremost of these are the 5 heat pipes rather than the normal 4, the easy mounting system (far easier than a lot of others from my experience), and the cooler coming in black and white instead of exposed aluminum. Pros: - 5 full heat pipes instead of the standard 4 or “5” on most hyper 212 clones. Frequently cheaper coolers that advertise having 5 heat pipes have 3 full pipes and 2 half length pipes, which doesn’t improve cooling performance much over just having 4 heat pipes, if at all. - Comes in both white and black for themed builds - Easy no hassle mounting. Far easier to mount on an Intel cpu than run-of-the-mill hyper 212 clones that use an adapter to mimic the AMD socket or even the original hyper 212 plus. - Stays snug against my cpu and can’t wiggle around. Yes, this a big enough issue with some other cooler mounting systems that I felt the need to mention it. - My i7-8700k runs significantly cooler on this than the cheap hyper 212 clone I previously used. - Nicely milled flat surface on the bottom of the cooler for good contact with your CPU. Update: Included ARGB fan has 12 LEDs in the hub, which is the most I have seen in a hub illuminated fan. I don't think you could fit any more in there. Cons: - The included fan is a "rainbow" fan with only a 4 pin motherboard connector. It cycles through a pretty rainbow pattern on its own, but can't be controlled externally. It looks nice, but it doesn’t match the theme of my build. I reached out to Vetroo about this and was informed that this was a first generation product, and that future products shipped would have an addressable fan instead. Update: no longer an issue, as Vetroo is now using ARGB fans Other thoughts: - Even though it isn’t listed, this cooler *should* be compatible with LGA 1200, as the hole spacing is supposed to be the same. Looking at other reviews at least one other reviewer says that they were able to use it with an LGA 1200 socket as well. - Even though it wasn’t listed as an available socket, I tried to mount this on an LGA 2011 socket motherboard to see if it would work. Even though LGA 2011/2066 has the same hole spacing as LGA 1366, they have different screw diameters, making this incompatible. - While most of the specs seem reasonable, I find it hard to believe that the static pressure is actually 3.61 mm H2O. That doesn’t make the cooler bad, but it just means you shouldn’t blindly trust the published specs. - The corners of the heatsink fins where the fan clips attach on my cooler were slightly bent, but not enough to impact the performance of the cooler in any appreciable way. Definitely not used, just a sign that the manufacturer may have slight quality control issues. - I’m not sure how well the outer heat pipes are contacting my CPU, as the base of the cooler is wider than my CPU. I didn’t want to take my motherboard out of my case to check, so I can’t really weigh in on this. - I can’t tell if this cooler was powder coated or anodized. It doesn’t really seem to make too much difference here, but it would be nice to know since theoretically anodized fins *should* be a bit better at dissipating heat than powder coated fins since they wouldn’t have a layer of paint acting as an insulator. - The translation from Chinese to English in the included manual is poor at best, but if you have ever built a computer before you probably won’t need the instructions anyways. In the end the main trade-off of this cooler over other comparably priced coolers turns into a question of do you want an extra heat pipe for cooling capacity or do you want a cooler with an RGB fan and RGB plate on top. ... show more
