  • much better than Contender or Challenger
Venum has several lines of boxing gloves, starting with Contender and ending with Giant. They all look beautiful, but vary a great deal in term of comfort, padding, and cooling. Disclaimer: I train in Muay Thai, twice/thrice per week, mostly doing mitt work/sparring. I use different (much lighter) gloves for bag work. I would advise to stay away from Contender Venum Contender Boxing Gloves, Grey, 16 oz altogether. Their padding was painfully (pun intended) inadequate. The heat had nowhere to escape, too, so while the price was attractive (indeed, exactly twice less than the Elites) I could not let my already bruised hands live with them. After trying the Challenger Venum Challenger 2.0 Boxing Gloves, White, 16-Ounce in our gym I found them to be better, but not by much. I decided to go with the Elites because of three factors: better padding, ventilated mesh, and padded palm. By the way, pay close attention when selecting the options - most Elite models don't come with ventilated mesh panel, only Black/Red/Grey, Neo Orange or yellow, and White/Black/Red do, as of this writing. The padded palm is a very cool feature when you're doing mitt work and both you and your partner use gloves rather than pads. Outside of some Twins models and (maybe) Hayabusa models in a higher price range, this is the only option. These gloves also have very good wrist stabilization. They're adjusting quite nicely to my hands, and look like they'll last for a long time before the admittedly synthetic leather starts to fall apart. The Sharp and Giant lines use Nappa leather, but I don't think that matters all that much. They're hand-made in Thailand, and the craftsmanship appears to be very solid - no loose threads or unfinished surfaces, both gloves fit identically well. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • 1 Year Update
So, after a year of use these gloves have not shown any signs of wear or tear. Incredibly, the paint is still as vivid and solid as the day I’ve received them a year ago. I rotate between my other gloves bi-daily, and there are times when these aren’t used for at most 2 weeks. One thing that I’m always surprised about is, after coming back to these gloves, how incredibly tailored-made they seem, despite being mass produced. They just fit so incredibly well. The construction is also superb; these don’t feel cheap. Now, I own a pair of Fairtex and Cletos, and still—I’ll gladly use these in place of those any day. Overall, the looks and feel are still incredible. However, even after a year of use, they still feel quite sturdy and stiff, which may be a problem to some with more sensitive hands. As I said in my review a year ago, these gloves aren’t really forgiving for those with heavy hands and poor form. They’re a Striker’s glove. Technical, good form is a must. ... show more

  • Great glove overall for the price
Color: Matte/Black Size: 16oz
I originally ordered a pair of fairtex gloves but the shipping time took too long and I needed something quick so I overnighted these venom gloves via prime. I ordered the 16oz gloves for reference. The quality, fit and finish is very nice. They don’t feel like they’re going to fall apart and they have a nice sturdiness to them. The material is not real leather but in reality it holds up and looks just as good as leather (other people won’t look down on you for having the synthetic leather). My hands fits just perfect in these gloves and I’m 190 pounds. Without wraps my hands are snug but not tight. With wraps they are tight but a perfect “tight” when nothing will move around but it won’t cut your circulation off either. The padding is really good in this glove as well. I don’t feel a thing when I hit the heavy bag many times during training with hand wraps on. I use these gloves for Muay Thai so if you’re looking for a pure boxing glove these probably won’t be the right shape. They have a lot of padding on the palm as well. Overall I’m very happy with my purchase and if you aren’t getting one of the Thai brands this is the next best thing for the price. ... show more

  • I'm happy to say they have held up well
Color: White/White Size: 10oz
I was waiting to write this review, as I wanted to see how well these gloves would hold up over time. I'm happy to say they have held up well. I was especially concerned with whether they would develop an odor over time and the answer is NO! (I've been very careful to dry them well after using and spraying the inside with tea tree oil.) The gloves have great padding for protection and the wrist straps are very supportive. I was hesitant to spend this much money on a pair of gloves but I'm glad I did! ... show more

  • Amazing gloves, worth the price
Color: Matte/Black Size: 14oz
These are my third pair of gloves since I started training Muay Thai a few years ago. My first pair is a 16oz Fairtex, and second pair is 12oz Lupus gloves. This time around, I decided that I would spend a bit more for premium gloves that would further minimize the damage to the knuckles, wrist and ligaments from training. With research online, I was able to narrow the choices down but ultimately went with these 14oz Venum Elite Boxing Gloves. They sold me with "handmade from Thailand". After 1.5 months of use at 4-5x/week, these are by far the best gloves that I have tried. The outer shell/layer feels really durable, and there have been no signs of wear to date. What I appreciate the most is the flexibility of the synthetic leather! I started wearing knuckle guards recently as they were getting bruised and discolored with just hand wraps alone. (I work in hospital as a provider and purple knuckles make me look/feel like a wife beater) I bend the gloves slightly in a back and forth motion as I insert my hands/wraps/knuckle guard and I am able to get a good grip at the end while fitting everything into place. I tried to put on my 16oz fairtex gloves with the same setup and had a lot of trouble fitting everything inside comfortably. The padding is exceptional as well, I can barely feel the impact when working the heavy bag. I am also a big fan of the longer cuffs and larger velcro bc I can use my apple watch during workouts now. Overall, I could not be happier with my purchase. These have definitely exceeded my expectations and I will heavily consider Venum again should I need to get more gear in the future. ... show more
