My first experience with an Ebike. I'm in decent shape at 62 y.o standing 6 ft and weighing 180 lbs. I have owned road bikes, mountain bikes and beach cruisers in my lifetime. My initial impression of the Velowave Ranger is that it's quite a remarkable bike. She's a hefty beast, yet nimble and well balanced. Assembly was easy, straightforward and took me about an hour. I went slowly, to ensure everything was adjusted and tightened correctly. This Ebike is exactly as described, performs as expected and is a sheer delight to ride. I charged the battery to 100% before testing out the bike. I took it out for a shakedown run of 6 miles on some dirt roads near my home. Smooth and extremely comfortable are the two words to best describe it. Then, I went on a 20 mile ride in the evening, pushing the limits of everything. The hydraulic brakes are amazing. Several deer jumped out in front of me, along with some small woodland creatures. In each instance, I was able to stop very quickly. I dampened down the adjustable front suspension for my comfort level, giving me a firm ride with adequate bump absorption. Shifting between the 7 gears was smooth and effortless, too. The battery was at 28% after a total of 26 miles ridden. I felt that I had worked it hard and therefore am pleased with the power and range. The headlight is extremely bright, giving clear notice to others. I appreciate having 2 sets of frame mounts for both a pump and water bottle. Overall I'm very impressed with the quality and functionality of this Ebike. The packaging was well thought out, with nary a scratch or mar anywhere. Every single weld on this 6061 aluminum frame was perfect, too. I would highly recommend the Velowave Ranger to anyone wanting a bigger sized Ebike. For some folks though, it might be too much bike for them, as it's a hefty beast. I loaded it on my car carrier rack w/o the battery installed and it tested my abilities. I'd recommend removing the battery during transport anyways, to eliminate any possibility of having the heavy battery come loose. I don't see that happening though, with the solid, locking mechanism that holds it in. I'll update in a few weeks with any notable additions. UPDATE: After 4 days and nearly 100 miles ridden, I'm a big fan of this bike. πŸ‘β€οΈ ... show more

Do not hesitate to buy this bike! I have been a mechanical engineer for over 36 years & have wrenched many assemblies through all of them. Quality you can see and feel as soon as you look inside the box - best packaging I have seen yet, ensures that your bike is not damaged in transit. It has hydraulic disc brakes (most have mechanical), trust me hydraulic brakes are a must have for a bike of this weight & size, it actually skids those huge fat tires when you need to stop fast! The battery seems to last forever (especially in the lower assist modes). In pedal assist mode (5) I was able to hit 31 mph (just to see how fast it would go) with me pedalling in addition to the motor (it will go 21 if you do not pedal - power only). This bike is powerful & strong!! I am a big guy - 235lb gym rat and I am very comfortable on this bike. In my opinion you will have a very difficult time finding a better bike at this price point - most bang for your buck. I almost never write product reviews, but I would encourage others to experience the same enjoyment that I have on this bike. ... show more

This is a beast of a bike and very comfortable to ride. I purchased this to use as my daily commuter to and from work to help offset the costs of the ridiculous rising gas prices in California. So far so good but having said that I would recommend the following: Invest in the β€œTannus Armor” tire inserts to help reduce the chance of flat tires. This bike is heavy and it is very difficult to try and patch a puncture on the road. Had a rear flat tire day 3 of riding it. The brakes are pretty weak for this heavy bike. It weighs 75 pounds and after 700 miles I had to completely replace the β€œLogan” brand brakes that come with it for a better and more robust braking system. I attempted to bleed the brake lines prior but Velowave does not make a bleed kit for it so had to completely replace the brake system. Battery life improves over time. My work is only 9 miles away and would arrive with 45% battery life left. Now it has around 65% to 70% battery life left when I arrive at work or at home. Going to work I gain about 650 feet of elevation. It’s fast! At the top level of pedal assist will do 30mph+ on flat streets and 35mph+ downhill. The LED front headlight is very powerful for night conditions. Get yourself a good helmet. The standard bike helmets will not be sufficient to protect your head should you crash at those high speeds. So expect to invest about another $500.00 to $600.00 on top of the purchase price with the recommended upgrades to help give you some peace of mind so you don’t get stuck on the side of the road. ... show more
