I've used other water softener cleaners regularly but they can be expensive. Those state on their MSDS that they are just Phosphoric Acid but they also say they are a "Trade Secret." Maybe they have other things in them, I don't know. Anyway, the Velocity is very forthcoming on the bottle with the ingredients. This is more than just phosphoric acid. It's also made in USA. The best part is you get three doses from it rather than just one. To be honest I didn't know this stuff existed until now. I may be making a full-time switch if all goes well. It came packaged nicely in a bag with lid wrap on it. There is also a seal under the cap. So the chance of it leaking in shipping are very slim. Since I keep my softener clean, I doubt I'll notice an immediate difference like some who don't maintain theirs regularly. That said, I'll notice in my water test if it's not working. I have a lot of clear water iron in my well water (I have to run mine at 35 grains) along with some other trace minerals that can reduce the efficiency of a softener. If it's not working, I'll report back. For now, I'm very pleased with what I see. ... show more

A little more costly than some alternatives I can source locally, but not as expensive as others... I have very hard well water, so I'm basically forced to run a cleaner like this through quite regularly to keep the resin working... It's really hard to gauge how well this one works compared to others but based on the ingredients I have no doubt it's doing the job... ... show more

Put in 8oz, ran a recharge cycle on my Whirlpool softener. No difference in taste or smell, which is a good thing. I can't remember what brand I tried a couple years ago, but it caused a taste difference in the water unless I ran a couple regen cycles after adding cleaning solution. Glad this stuff does not do that, as it wastes a good bit of softening salt. ... show more

I never knew you were supposed to put cleaner in it. Lately, we’ve started to get yellow rings in our bathroom sinks and toilets. I found this cleaner and decided to give it a try. It does say there’s a possibility it may make your water smell like chemicals, but it was still a little disturbing that we could smell it so clearly. I ran the water from the sink closest to the softener for a while to get rid of it like the instructions say, but it worries me that it may have gotten into the line of our water dispenser in our fridge. I’ll still use it again, but I’ll make sure not to use the water dispenser until after the regeneration cycle and I’ve had a chance to run some water through our faucets. As for its effectiveness, I haven’t seen anything that would tell me that it’s working yet. I imagine after so many years, it may take a few treatments to get things cleaned well. ... show more

I got this for my water softener for standard maintenance. The price was good and it was similar to another brand I use. It's easy to use, but you do need something to measure out the cleaner. I didn't notice any smells that came from it, but it has the same ingredients as my other cleaner so I believe it will be of good quality. ... show more

I used this water softener cleaner solution as per the instructions provided on this bottle but haven't noticed any difference in the quality of the water or how often does the water softener do the regeneration. The product booklet that came with the water softener I have does not mention anything about using cleaning solutions so not sure if it actually matters. ... show more

I followed the instructions on how to use this water softener cleaning solution and so far have not seen any noticeable differences which could be good or bad...so maybe it's working?

    • Wasn't expecting THAT..
I've had my Culligan softener for several years, never had resin changed and never thoroughly cleaned softener before. I started noticing more and more yucky concrete like build up around all of my faucets and a foul odor to my water....so i got this...and i did what it says, poured 8 oz in the brine well and hit the regen button...it happened that i was in basement with softener when it started draining out the most vile orange colored water i have ever seen!!! My softener drain runs into the bottom of an old, unused shower in my basement so the water draining out during a regen cycle is visible...i was NOT expecting anything like this toxic looking water to come out!!! I really cannot tell u how truly disturbing the color was!! And the odor?? Equally hideous! The product itself had no noticeable odor....but the water draining from my softener reeked...like rotten eggs and pond scum!! I've never seen the water that color or noticed such an awful smell before! Based on that, i am going to say that this product works great! Its done now, the orange color got lighter and lighter and the smell started fading out as the regen went on. There is no odor in my tap water now and its clear..overall, very satisfied with how easy this use, as well as how quickly it worked! Definitely recommend! ... show more
