  • Great Product...but
This is an excellent product. I'm a furniture restorer in Las Vegas area (that matters), with lots of experience. Ignore instructions, and do this: First stir well and get a good split tip brush - fully wipe down the wood item you are doing with damp cloth. Note that I said WOOD...that's what this stuff is meant for. Lay it on thin to medium coat, and NEVER rebrush once you lay the coat, especially in low humidity areas (like Vegas). Folks like to rebrush several times when applying finish material. DON'T DO IT. After second coat, sand lightly with 220 or finer. Always 3-5 coats. After final coat is dry, rub lightly with the grain with 4-0 steel wood and lots of good spray wax. Goes a very long way, cheap per use. I love it! ... show more

  • A really nice solution for those that do not have a shop to work on finishing wood in...
I bought this as a solution for not having a decent space to apply finish to my wood. I needed a no fume product, as I have to do my finish work in a basement with a boiler about 10 ft away. I was worried about the low flash point of traditional polyurethanes . It did as good a job as regular polyurethane, without the harsh fumes or long dry times. Pros -As good as other polyurethane products -quick dry time -no fumes -crystal clear after drying, after applying many coats -Can be thinned with just water -Can be cleaned up with just water (until it is dry) -Water proof when dry Cons -REALLY expensive -Dry time can be too fast, leading to brush trails, or messed up surface if you go over it more than once -A little thicker out of the can than I would prefer Overall, though, this is probably the only polyurethane finish I will use for future products. I love it and appreciate the fact that I'm not breathing in toxins when I use it. I love the water clean up. I love the finish it provides. I will update with pictures, but these have a tung oil finish on them, so this does not necessarily represent the appearance of the polyurethane by itself. It does, however, give you an idea of the quality the product provides. ... show more

  • Thin; semi gloss not shiny at all.
I used the semi-gloss as a protective coating on a wood countertop in my laundry room that I painted with a faux-marble design. I followed the directions carefully. It goes on very thin so a lot of coats are necessary. (The can says to apply AT LEAST 3 coats—I applied 4.) I waited 2 hours between coats as instructed. Some bubbles appeared and I used a brush to dissolve those away, but I noticed that if you wait a few minutes, the bubbles mostly disappear on their own with little fuss. I left the window open, so no issue with fumes. This stuff cleans up GREAT. In between coats, I covered my brush with kitchen plastic wrap which kept it nice and moist so it was ready to go for each new coat. My only complaint, which is a big one to me, is that this does not have any sheen at all-not like the semi-gloss that I had hoped for. I didn’t buy gloss to begin with because it was about twice as expensive on Amazon at the time I was looking to buy. Will need to wait and see if I can live with this the way it is, or if I need to go and buy the gloss now anyway. If my review was helpful, please let Amazon know by clicking “helpful”. Thanks. ... show more

  • It really is clear! Does not add any color!
I tried several other products that claim to be clear but even a hint of yellow can ruin a piece of furniture. So happy to have discovered this Rust- Oleum product.

  • Dries crystal clear
I was using this product to put a protective layer over a stick-on laminate coating on my kitchen counter. I wasn't sure how thick to apply it so I started with light coats but it didn't seem to put much of a protective cover down. I started pouring it on and spreading it with a foam brush, hoping it would self-level like epoxy. It did for the most part but I still ended up with some pooling spots that were a little softer than the rest of the coating. Regardless of how thick you apply it, it does still dry crystal clear. Definitely not as hard or durable as epoxy, but it's much cheaper and much easier to work with. ... show more

  • Works great for painted fireplace tile
Never used this before so was a tad nervous. But watched a video where it was rolled on tile quickly and so I jumped in. Used a white 4" foam roller. This was my fireplace tile that I painted and stenciled. I did three coats and didn't notice any smell using it. Cleaned up pretty well with soap and water just like normal latex paint. Gives a pretty sheen that seems to be well protecting. Time will tell if it can protect for the long haul. ... show more
