I've been a fan of the Vantrue company for a while, given their strong reliability, and they keep continuing to impress and develop new models with advanced features. This model is a very compact fun cam, with an excellent front-only recording (160 degrees angles) and a reasonable price point. Installation was straightforward and given the compact side, the cam looks nice and does not distract while driving. There are 4 physical buttons, on the device itself (for menu navigation and taking pictures), but the same controls/all settings are available via the mobile phone app. You do need to however enable WiFi on the cam first and connect to it on the phone. (System Setup ->Wi-Fi-> On) Cam can also be controlled via voice (System Setup -> Voice ), or a separate physical remote control. Both of these features worked as expected (with Standard sensitivity). e.g taking hand-free pictures. The built-in GPS, arguably one of the most useful features, works great and the desktop app will overlay location with the video. Cam features multiple recording resolutions (2592x1942P @30 FPS is highest but at 60 FPS its 1920x 1080P) and HDR modes are also available. I did not see any jitter or lag and the resolution was high enough to read signs and license plates 5-10 ft away and even at night. The device lets you add your license plate (again via buttons or app) and that can later be used to prove authenticity of the video. A nice feature is also recording of the actual speed, on the video, which can be used as evedence. To get the recordings/pictures you can either 1. pull SD card (which is not included) and view on a computer, or 2. enable Wifi and view them via mobile app, which is more convenient, but could be even more convinent with a dedicated wifi button or less clicks. A nice extra is a USB port on the charger, so you can plug and charge another device via the car lighter. The other features such as Parking mode, in my case, is not very useful, as I have not connected the cam to the car battery directly. Overall I definitely recommend this cam. ... show more

I really like this dashcam. It has all the features that I want (GPS, hi def, small footprint, includes its own screen, connects to phone), and none of the ones that I don't want (rear camera). It seems to be a well built solid unit. Features I liked: 1. built in GPS - you can stamp the time, lat/long and speed on your videos. 2. Installation was easy. Two sets of mounting materials are included. 3. The mounting system uses a piece of clear plastic film with adhesive on one side that sticks to the windshield. Then the camera attaches to the clear plastic film via an adhesive on the camera mount. This mounting system might allow for a cleaner removal in the future since I do not see any large mass of adhesive. 4. Power connects to the mount OR direct to the camera. If you connect to the mount, then it is very easy to remove the camera from the mount. It is held in place via a magnet, and just slides out. The magnet is strong - I do not think it would ever fall out. 5. It was pretty easy to connect my android phone the camera's wifi signal. Launch wifi on the unit by saying "wi-fi on", then connect your phone's wifi network to the camera's wifi signal. Once you do that, you can see live view on your phone - handy when you are aligning the camera which has a very small screen - like 1 inch wide. This also allows you to download clips or photos from the camera to your phone where you can post/send them. You can also use the phone to edit the camera settings. And there are lots of things you can adjust - sensitivity of "5-levels of G-shock sensitivities (on 3 axes) r" led lights on or off, etc. 6. The voice control works well - "turn on wi-fi" "turn off audio" "take photo" 7. They posted several helpful videos on YouTube. 8. You can use the camera outside of the car, anywhere that you could power the USB port. You could use this unit as a nanny-cam, security cam, but probably not outside. 9. Video recordings are crisp, recorded in clips from 1- 3 minutes. Low light recording is really good. Good enough to pick out license plates. 10. My only ding is that the instructions (I only know English, the manual has FR, DEUTSCH, PL, JP, CH, ESP) are sort of typical for a foreign - sourced item. They are sparse, incomplete and hard to comprehend. The instruction manual sort of reads like a series of text messages with words missing, and using the fewest words possible. The manual is also printed in VERY tiny font. However, customer service via e-mail was very helpful, always replying within 12 hours, often much quicker, and they have helpful videos on YouTube. 11. Installation Note: If you purchase this, you will use ONE of the provided clear electrostatic films to mount the camera to your windshield. The electrostatic film is clear, and it has two clear protective films, one on either side. They are labeled with stickers as "1" and "2." You remove film no. 1 before attaching the plastic film to the windshield, then you peel off film no. 2 before attaching the camera mount. This camera has many great features such as small size, magnetic mounting for easy removal, vast programmable features, easy to operate, easy to install, very affordable price, WiFi connection to smartphone, and much more. The photos show the camera installed on the windshield, and the remote control on on dashboard. The WiFi feature comes in very handy to change camera settings, downloads, and general camera controls. Very easy to remove camera from its magnetic mount and bring it to your computer for download or settings. Windshield mounting is to first mount the supplied plastic sheet to your windshield and then attach the camera to the plastic sheet, for easy removal in the future.
