This kit is ABSOLUTE TRASH. It looks nice once put together, but the response of the heads and especially the cymbals is atrocious. The high hat can't handle more than 16th notes. The bass drum is hyper sensitive and sounds like you are playing double kick poorly. I can't recommend staying away from this kit strongly enough. It is absolutely terrible. ... show more

    • A solid beginner kit modeled after Roland

This is marketed as a beginner's electric drum set and fills that role well. Much of the layout and part design is modeled after Roland, generally acknowledged as the leader in electric drums. Vangoa sells a separate electric set for juniors; as my son is almost ready for a full sized kit, we figured this would work well enough for him to grow into. Maybe because he's still a bit small for a full sized kit, setup took quite a while; not as much to put all the pieces together, but to get everything aligned properly to play naturally. Once assembled, there were some settings that needed immediate attention - the kick, for example, was throwing out 1/32 strokes regularly. Fortunately, the controller allows fairly easy configuration on a number of settings. Honestly, the biggest problem we had was insufficient explanation of what the different options did, though some were obvious. With a bit of trial and error, we've got the set working pretty well. He's been playing on a physical kit for the past couple years and, while the heads are consistently smaller than what he's used to, he's still able to hold a decent beat. There are occasional accidental taps on the rim, but nothing too bad. He really likes the ability to plug in an MP3 player (or other music output) and jam along to his favorite songs. There are, of course, a couple gripes that I consider minor because they don't impact us much. The throne is a bit lightweight, but reasonable for the price. The sticks, on the other hand, are probably the worst I've ever seen. The headphones are also terrible and should be replaced immediately. For us, these are small things though because we already have nice sticks and headphones. If buying this as a gift, make sure you buy a separate pair of sticks though! Someday maybe we'll spend 5x as much to get him a Roland that will last him the rest of his life. For now, our house is quiter than it's been in a long time and he's having fun. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I’m not super familiar with drums, but this kit is pretty awesome. It has enough to get a person started if you’re trying to learn. It has some preset songs to play along with (30 songs) and they are a great tool for beginners. The headphones work great and allow for quieter practice. This is a nice entry level or beginners drum set up. I like the fact that it has a little more realistic cymbal design and feel compared to others that had a hammer you hit that stood in for a lot of different things that you could program, but the last thing it felt like was a cymbal. I like the fact that it has a midi connection point. It plays very closely to a real drum set in that there’s very little, to zero lag. I did encounter some issues after just one hour of use. The drums suddenly stopped working and I had to take it to a service center, which cost me $90 to fix.
