  • BL5 = more open and less thin sounding
Style: BL5 Pattern: Mouthpiece
I am a saxophonist in my mid 40s and once upon a time made my living by playing and teaching lessons. Up until about 6 months ago had only rarely played bari. I had a BL3 as my go to classical mouthpiece with a legere signature 3.5. It was a pretty good setup but I noticed my middle register on the horn sounded thin and my 4th line D sometimes wanted to play the overtone to A if I wasn't vigilant about voicing. Not a deal breaker as the setup let me play low notes staccato while playing softly. I wasn't completely satisfied though so I got a BL5 and ended up pairing it with a legere signature 2.75. Now the 4th line D is much more secure (along with middle register sounding fuller) and I can still play my low notes staccato while playing soft. Very pleased with the outcome. ... show more

  • An Excellent Mouthpiece at a Reasonable Price
Style: BL4 Pattern: Mouthpiece
My primary instrument is bassoon but I double on clarinets and saxophones. My bari sax is a Vienna Series Allora and while the instrument is easy to play, quite a few of the notes needed embouchure adjustment to get them close to being in tune. I tried a Yamaha mouthpiece and while it was an improvement, I still needed to work some notes to get them right. I have had good luck with Vandoren mouthpieces on my clarinets so I decided to try this on my sax. Not only are most of the notes in tune with little to no embouchure adjustment, the sax seems to blow easier with a nice full, round sound. Also, I use a Rovner ligature and while it seemed a little oversized on the other mouthpieces, it fits this mouthpiece just right. ... show more

  • Fantastic Series
Style: BL3 Pattern: Mouthpiece
My daughter loves the Vandoren L3 series mouth pieces. She was in need of a good mouth piece for the Bari from her school and we looked multiple places before I stumbled across Amazon who could get it to me in 2 days, which gave her plenty of time before ISSMA performance. She now has the Alto, Tenor, and Bari. I'm sure when she gets her Soprano Sax I will be making another purchase. ... show more

  • Gold standard Mouth piece
Style: BL3 Pattern: Mouthpiece
Love it so much I've been using it for about 2 years and it just broke because I got careless and dropped so about to try super glue! Highly suggest this mouth piece over all else!

  • I love it!
Style: BL3 Pattern: Mouthpiece
Works great - bit more closed than C* but definitely sounds much darker and helps give off a more controlled tone/

  • Great Mouthpiece
Style: BL3 Pattern: Mouthpiece
This mouthpiece has a great sound with much control. I wouldn't chose any other mouthpiece to play on. I use this model on every saxophone that I play.

  • Versatile, Rich Tone
Style: BL4 Pattern: Mouthpiece
I purchased a BL4 about a year ago, and having been using it for concert band and quartet (which plays everything from Bach to Black Sabbath). I am impressed with the overall versatility of this mouthpiece and it was a big improvement with sound. Previously I was using a cheap Rico metalite mouthpiece (which is also a very good mouthpiece, especially for the cost, but too punchy for concert or classical music). Recently I've tried several other mouthpieces, including the vaunted Selmer S-80 C* and I have to say I like the BL4 best. Right now I am looking for a more classical sound and so have ordered a BL5 to try out as that is supposed to be more "classical". I'm looking forward to trying it out. ... show more
