  • Consistent quality in a box of 10
Size: Strength 3
I usually use V12s but occasionally switch to V21s to get a bit stiffer reed. I don’t find any throwaways in the V21s. Usually find at least 5 out of 10 that are performance worthy.

  • Worth the extra money.
Size: Strength 3.5
The v12 is worth the extra money. We all know and love vandoren reeds, but the V12 is great for that dedicated musician that wants to go further. It’s worth the extra money for the better quality sound and durable reeds.

  • Most people don't need to bother with these, except professionals.
Size: Strength 3.5
These worked out really well for me. I noticed that out of four different types of Vandoren reeds, I seem to get more performance grade reeds out of these boxes (v21). Currently on a closed M30 Vandoren setup. This, of course, may change if I go to a different mouthpiece. For most intermediate and beginner players who don't work on matching setups, the higher price of these reeds is not worth the effort. Any box of Vandoren reeds will have the same overall quality. So, if you're on the regular blue box, or whatever else, you might as well stick to it. ... show more

  • They are harder than what the ads state i.e the 3 1/2+ is equal to the 3 1/2 V12.
Size: Strength 3.5+
Explanation of comparative strength to other Vandoren reeds. The V21 strength is harder than the V12, at least the box I purchased.

  • Excellent reed
Size: Strength 3
I played a lot in high school (some 30 odd years ago) and remember that I preferred the Vandoren reeds. I usually bought the reeds in the silver box so when I joined a community band a few years ago, I naturally gravitated towards my old favorites. However, I want to improve as a player and have begun researching clarinets and the various parts that go into making music. I'm playing consistently sharp across the register and wanted to know what I needed to do to improve that tendency. I had already upgraded my mouthpiece and barrel so I started testing reeds in different strengths: Mitchell Lurie, synthetic, plasticover, Vandoren; I would give each reed a few weeks of practicing and rehearsing. Then I came across the Vandoren V21 reed - I love these reeds! I have not yet come across a "dead" reed and the tone is a nice warm tone. I still want to further test reeds but it does get to be an expensive undertaking! So for now, I'm sticking with the V21's. I think it is one of the best reeds I've played on and when it comes down to a concert - it is the V21 I for which I reach!!! ... show more

  • Never fail

My daughter has been using V12s for years. Great reeds.

  • Love it!
Size: Strength 3.5
I saw the preview ad for it on Vandoren's site. I preordered from a different site, and when they came in and I got to actually try it, I was pleasantly surprised by the feel and sound of these reeds! I usually like vandoren traditional blues, and have tried the V12's and Rue Lepics in the past. But they both left me wanting....I couldn't put my finger on it. These new V21's have a great response with a lot of warmth to the sound. My first box was the 3.5+ and it played well on my M13lyre, but some were a little too hard for my embouchure. So I decided to finally try slightly softer reeds and I finally got the sound and feel I was looking for. Just right. They are quite expensive compared to the traditional, but definitely worth the extra price. My reeds have lasted longer and continue to have that warmth in sound that I like, with months of use. ... show more

  • Good reed for the right player
Size: Strength 4.5
I gave these a try to see how it compared with the traditional blue box, but found this cut of reed wasn’t a good match for me.
